Yesterday, tweets from Karla Sofía Gascon on topics such as George Floyd’s murder and Muslims sparked widespread criticism and were shared extensively online, with many labeling her views as racist and Islamophobic. In a Q&A held in London (via Variety), Saldaña addressed Gascon’s contentious opinions and the negative reactions they elicited. When asked about this situation, she responded:

Over these recent days, I’ve been deeply reflecting on what’s happened, and it’s left me feeling quite down. This situation is distressing to me because I fundamentally oppose it, and I can’t abide by any harsh language directed at individuals from any community.

Later on, Saldaña discussed the process of creating the movie, explaining that during the filming of “Emilia Pérez“, her relationships with the cast and crew revolved around “promoting inclusivity and teamwork.” The star of “Lioness ” reflected on this experience and the ongoing conversation about her movie which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription, stating:

I can verify the encounters I’ve had with every person involved in this movie, which were centered around themes of inclusivity, collaboration, and equality regarding race, culture, and gender. It’s disheartening to see us experiencing a step back at this time.

At the end of her reply, the actress from Guardians of the Galaxy switched the topic to express gratitude towards fans for their unwavering support of Emilia Pérez during the numerous disputes and negative remarks that she’s encountered. She stated:
