As a devoted fan who has closely followed the lives of these charming Parisians since the show’s inception, I must say that Season 4 is shaping up to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions! With Alfie breaking things off with Emily due to misunderstandings and suspicions, it seems the city of love has lost its magic for our dear Emily. Sylvie, on the other hand, is juggling her business, personal life, and a love triangle – quite reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower’s intricate structure.
There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about Emily in Paris. The quirky romantic comedy-drama is one of those so-bad-it’s-good guilty pleasures that’s chocked full of rom-com tropes, Parisian stereotypes, and over-the-top characters. But that’s also a big part of its charm. The show’s third season streamed way back in December 2022, which means fans have been waiting a year and eight months for the next season. It will be delivered in two parts, with the first five episodes on August 15, 2024, and the next five on September 12, 2024.
With such a long gap between the third season and the upcoming fourth, it’s possible that viewers might need a refresher on the events leading up to the new season.
What Happens to Emily in Season 3?
Season 3 finds Emily (Lily Collins) in a challenging predicament: should she remain employed by Madeline (Kate Walsh) or move forward with working for Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) in Paris? Instead of making a choice, Emily opted to work for both parties, fearing the disappointment she might cause Madeline who was heavily pregnant. To make matters worse, her uncertainty about Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) led to their informal split, but the break didn’t last long.
After much uncertainty at Savoir, Sylvie seizes the opportunity to start her own venture, dubbed Agence Grateau. Meanwhile, due to their past disagreements, Emily finds herself out of work at Savoir. To fill her days, she shares her experiences online and eventually takes a position as a waitress at Gabriel’s restaurant (Lucas Bravo), but things don’t go smoothly there either. Eventually, Sylvie recognizes Emily’s worth and offers her a second chance to work together again.
Emily has returned to peak performance in her career. In a recent predicament where Antoine’s new perfume is compromised by a manufacturing error, Emily swiftly comes up with a solution: launch the unspoiled batch as a limited edition to boost profits and generate excitement. However, her most significant strategy involves assisting Pierre Cadault in preserving his business. She works tirelessly to prevent Nicolas from dismissing him and bringing in Grégory Elliott Duprée instead. Following an accident (a motorbike taxi hit him), Emily suggests they orchestrate the illusion of Cadault’s demise, allowing him to make a dramatic entrance at the launch event and announce his “resurrection” as well as his separation from JVMA.
What’s Going on With the Emily, Gabriel, Camille Love Triangle?
As a devoted film enthusiast, I found myself deeply engrossed in the intricate love triangle unfolding on screen between Emily, Gabriel, and the captivating Camille Razat. The relationship between Gabriel and Camille seemed to hit a snag, making the situation all the more tense.
When Emily and Gabriel find themselves at an impromptu dinner in a high-end restaurant due to Alfie’s absence, it becomes evident that there is still a strong connection between them. This bond deepens even more as they spend time alone together following their outing with Mindy (portrayed by Ashley Park), along with Nicolas (played by Paul Forman). They explore a balloon exhibition, letting loose and savoring the freedom of the evening. However, Gabriel opens up to Emily about his struggles in his relationship with Camille. Over time, he expresses his affection for her and his anxiety over Camille ending their relationship.
Once Camille comes back from her business trip in Greece and apparently ends things with Sofia, Gabriel proposes the idea that they would make an ideal pair for Grateau’s new romance campaign. The client is looking to hire a couple to film a real-life proposal, and Gabriel decides to take on the role, intending to propose to Camille. Emily has conflicting emotions about this, but he moves forward with his plan.
During their engagement celebration, Gabriel suddenly expresses his desire to get married immediately, leaving everyone taken aback. However, just as they were about to exchange vows, Camille interrupts and confesses that she’s aware of his feelings for Emily. She believes he wants to be with her instead. What stuns everyone the most is when Camille discloses that she’s pregnant, explaining Gabriel’s eagerness for a quick wedding.
Where Do the Other Characters Stand?
With Alfie now holding the position of Chief Financial Officer for Antoine, he’s found himself working more intimately with Emily and Gabriel. While his bond with Emily had its ups and downs, stemming from his decision to keep their relationship hidden from family, they eventually reached a stable point. Interestingly, Alfie and Gabriel developed a strong friendship as well. However, following Camille’s speech, Alfie decides to end things with Emily, suspecting there might be something going on between her and Gabriel. Despite his suspicions being unfounded, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was merely an alternative choice.
It’s worth mentioning that Sylvie manages her own business and has hired several team members, including Emily. The team is working together harmoniously, but there are signs of jealousy from Julien (Samuel Arnold) towards Emily. Her ideas for the campaign often take priority, and Emily, unknowingly, tends to take over Julien’s clients and assignments, leaving him in a less prominent position. According to the Season 4 preview, Julien’s growing resentment might reach its boiling point.
In my journey as an aspiring local singer, things have been picking up momentum. I recently joined a band, performing at diverse gigs that eventually led us to securing a well-known, prestigious one. A twist of fate brought me back in touch with my old friend Nicolas, who works for JVMA. Unfortunately, Benoit (Kevin Dias) and I parted ways due to suspicions about our relationship. As it turns out, he was correct, and we shared a heartfelt moment under the starlit sky while watching a movie in the park.
As I pen this review, I find myself embroiled in the passionate liaison between Camille and Sofia, a relationship that’s deepened to such an extent that Sofia implores Camille to return with her to Greece. Meanwhile, Gabriel is immersed in managing his restaurant, now affectionately named Gigi, after his beloved grandmother. The culmination of his efforts comes when he learns that Luc, a former flame, has ties to a renowned food critic. With confidence radiating from every pore, Luc encourages his ex to sample the cuisine at Gabriel’s establishment, certain that it would captivate her taste buds.
What We Know About Emily in Paris Season 4 So Far
The storyline for Emily in Paris concludes amid significant turmoil. As Gabriel and Camille have parted ways, Alfie and Emily have ended their relationship, and Camille is pregnant with Gabriel’s child, the series will center around Emily grappling with her intense feelings for both men. Meanwhile, Gabriel must navigate his emotions, fatherhood, and pursuit of a Michelin star. However, the official synopsis hints at secrets that could potentially unravel all their dreams. Given that Alfie is collaborating with Gabriel financially, and Emily remains involved with Camille’s family business, the trio’s lives are closely connected, which promises to make both their personal and professional lives rather uncomfortable.
Sylvie finds herself in a significant predicament concerning her past as Agence Grateau experiences turbulence. Now that Mindy has joined the Eurovision contest, Sylvie needs to rehearse with her band for what could be the most defining moment in her life. Additionally, she’s entangled in a love triangle involving Benoit and Nicolas. Benoit stirs feelings from her past, while Nicolas represents her artistic side.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates about the upcoming season! Darren Star, our brilliant showrunner, has confirmed some familiar faces returning, including Collins, Bravo, Park, Razat, Laviscount, Leroy-Beaulieu, Arnold, Gouery, and Abadie. The intrigue deepens as we anticipate more of Sofia on screen, hinting at the revelation of Gabriel’s knowledge about the affair and a potential future for their relationship.
There’s speculation that Kim Cattrall might make an appearance at the show’s third season premiere, given her character from “Sex and the City” relocated to London for a PR job. However, it’s not something the creators are keen on doing for the sake of creating buzz. They prefer organic casting. Yet, they mentioned that if a role came up that seemed fitting for Cattrall, she could potentially join the series, as she would bring a lot of positive energy to the show.
As a longtime fan of romantic comedies, I must say that the latest teaser for “Emily in Paris” on Netflix has me absolutely thrilled! Having followed the show since its debut, I can attest to its charm and wit, not to mention its captivating portrayal of the city of love. In this new season, it seems our beloved Emily is in for a rollercoaster ride, as she grapples with making difficult choices between what she wants and what she truly needs. Paris, the city that has captured her heart, will continue to challenge her in unexpected ways, leading her on an unforgettable Roman holiday. I can’t wait to see how this season unfolds, and I encourage all fellow fans of the show to join me in streaming “Emily in Paris” on Netflix!
