Summary

  • Eminem’s Eight Mile Style is suing Meta for copyright infringement
  • The lawsuit alleges Meta used Eminem’s songs without proper licenses
  • The company is seeking $150,000 USD per song per platform

Eminem’s music publishing company Eight Mile Style has filed a lawsuit against Meta.

As reported by CBS News, Eight Mile Style claims that Meta is illegally making Eminem’s music available without obtaining the necessary permission for reproduction and distribution. The company has filed a lawsuit against Meta, citing copyright infringement, incitement of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement, and vicarious copyright infringement. Additionally, they allege that Meta is profiting from the use of these songs. It’s important to note that Eminem himself is not a party in this legal action.

It is said that the online music library provided by Meta contains approximately 243 songs from Eight Mile Style, which users can use in their posts.

The lawsuit states that Eight Mile Style and Meta (previously known as Facebook) could not reach an agreement for a license during their dealings with Audiam, a company specializing in digital music royalties. Em’s company claims they contacted Meta over the potential copyright violation, leading to Meta deleting “several of the Eight Mile compositions” from its music libraries.

Eight Mile Style is requesting $150,000 USD for each song and on every platform, and they’re also asking the court to issue an injunction to prevent Meta from illegally disseminating these songs.
