If Sunday night seems like a repeat of “The Emmys,” it’s not surprising: The television industry held their awards ceremony in January, several months later than normal, to present the 2023 awards. This delay was due to double strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA in the previous year. However, a lot could change for the 2024 Emmys in just eight months’ time.
Previous champions and well-loved contenders such as Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear”, Quinta Brunson of “Abbott Elementary” and Elizabeth Debicki from “The Crown” are again nominated for awards, but the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles will also welcome newcomers to the ceremony. These include Ryan Gosling, who was nominated for his guest-hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live”, as well as Naomi Watts, who secured her first Emmy nomination for her portrayal of Babe Paley in FX’s “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”.
Meanwhile, the Shogun production has already claimed 14 awards out of its historic 25 Emmy nominations at the Creative Arts Emmys, which were presented on September 7-8. In the upcoming prime-time broadcast (to be aired on ABC), this epic period drama will also compete for the award of outstanding drama series. Furthermore, Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, the show’s leading actors, have also been nominated in their respective acting categories. For more insights into these nominations, check out the predictions from The Hollywood Reporter’s chief TV critics here.
Other stylish celebrities anticipated to grace the Emmys red carpet include Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon from The Morning Show, Andrew Scott known for his role in Ripley, Kristen Wiig of Palm Royale, and Ayo Edebiri starring in The Bear. Catch a glimpse of the attendees as they arrive at Peacock Theater, with updates provided by THR throughout the night. Don’t forget to check out the list of winners here.
