As a longtime fan of both Julia Roberts and the enigmatic Eric Roberts, I find myself captivated by their latest headlines. While Eric’s apology to his sister for his past comments is a heartening step towards reconciliation, it’s Julia’s reminiscence about working with Denzel Washington that truly resonates with me.
As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Eric Roberts, Julia Roberts’ brother and a long-time actor himself, is releasing a new book soon. Yesterday, he made headlines for apologizing to his sister for some comments about her career that went viral. Interestingly, Julia Roberts has been open in the past about an actor who significantly influenced her career, and surprisingly, it wasn’t Eric. It was Denzel Washington.
Eric Roberts’ ‘Asinine’ Comment And His Subsequent Apology
In 2018, the nominee for the Oscar-winning film “Runaway Train” discussed with Vanity Fair an oft-repeated statement that he might have paved the path for the successful women in his family to enter the industry, as he was already famous before Julia and later his daughter Emma gained recognition. The quote didn’t spark controversy in a negative manner.
Without my contribution, neither Julia Roberts nor Emma Roberts would have become famous actresses – a fact I take great pride in.
Roberts has been open about the fact that his relationship with his sister was already tense before these recent remarks. He’s previously struggled with drug addiction, and Julia sided with Kelly Cunningham when she sought full custody of Emma following their separation. In his new book titled “Runaway Train: Or The Story Of My Life So Far“, according to People, he apparently expresses remorse for past comments about fame, labeling them as “foolish”.
I hope Julia will accept this public apology. It was an asinine thing to have said.
In earlier times, Eric has been candid about the fact that both Emma and Julia have requested him to avoid mentioning their names during interviews.
Julia Roberts Often Speaks About The Time Denzel Washington Impacted Her Career
Eric might think he’s entitled to some recognition, but Julia Roberts has frequently praised her good friend Denzel Washington for significantly boosting her acting career. They both played crucial roles in bringing the John Grisham story “The Pelican Brief” to the big screen in 1993. At that time, she was still a fresh face in Hollywood, although she had already established herself with roles in “Mystic Pizza” and “Pretty Woman” beforehand.
In “The Pelican Brief,” I was asked to portray a scene where I was deeply troubled, emotional, and on the verge of breaking down. Washington was there with me, and we were told the scene would be filmed from afar, making us seem like two insignificant objects – almost like two mops. Assuming I wouldn’t have to put in much effort emotionally, I went along with it. However, the shot was unexpectedly changed, and my co-star offered me a straightforward piece of advice that has stayed with me ever since, which I later shared with Michael Strahan.
Moving forward, we find ourselves quite close to the camera, with it positioned just a few feet away. I turn to Denzel and query, “Denzel, I assumed we were mops. What’s happening here?” The director replies casually, “We altered the shot.” Feeling flustered because now the camera is almost touching me and I was expected to appear distraught, I ask Denzel again, “What should I do?” He simply says, “You’re going to act.” I take a deep breath and think, “Alright!” In retrospect, this instance might have shaped my entire acting career – that brief moment when he said, “Just act.
In various interviews, Julia Roberts has openly expressed gratitude towards her acting career. However, she also emphasizes that this success is just one aspect of her dreams and ambitions.
Regarding Eric, he mentions in his book that as he moves forward in his career, which encompasses this book’s release and his appearance on Dancing With The Stars (even though he isn’t the leading contender for Season 33), he is prepared to take on a Hollywood role that will shine a light on two other well-known women.
In essence, I envision myself forever being Julia’s sibling and Eric Roberts’ father. I aspire to honor this role, stepping back with dignity and poise whenever necessary. This is one of the motivations behind my decision to write the book.
Next up, you can catch Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt (which is coming after his upcoming movie Queer). And Emma Roberts in the recently released Space Cadet with an Amazon Prime subscription. The latest season of Dancing with the Stars has already hit the 2024 TV schedule and airs Tuesday nights on ABC.
