The realm of (specific genre or topic) is venturing into uncharted territories, with the fifth installment of the primary series being one such example. Yet, prior to “John Wick 5,” fans will witness Keanu Reeves’ assassin character in a spinoff film, titled “(spinoff title)” led by (director’s name). In an interview with The Direct, Ana de Armas discussed her character, Eve Macarro, and emphasized the importance of not creating a female equivalent of John Wick.

In discussing the unique qualities of Macarro compared to Wick, de Armas elaborated on the personal experiences of her character that fuel her performance in the latest film. She explained:

In other words, we didn’t aim to create a female version of John Wick. Instead, our goal was to introduce Eve Macarro, a unique character who bears some similarities but also has distinct differences. Both seek revenge and are driven by pain, yet they each have their own individuality.

She endured a traumatic event as a child, watching men take her father’s life. This incident has deeply affected her throughout her life, leading her on a quest for justice. However, the pain she carries often morphs into anger and fury. At times, she is inexperienced in dealing with such matters.

John Wick has a vast amount of experience under his belt, whereas she is relatively new to this realm. She’ll soon encounter the repercussions of disregarding advice and continuing down certain paths. Also, allowing feelings to overpower good judgment can lead to potential troubles.

Ana de Armas Was Determined to Make Eve Macarro Her Own Character

Similar to the continuous debate over the lack of a female equivalent to James Bond, the suggestion of a spinoff featuring a female lead for the John Wick series sparked some criticism about gender swapping Keanu Reeves’ character. Yet, it is evident that de Armas does not aim to be merely considered “the female John Wick.” This stance has been reinforced since previous statements on the matter. In late December, she clarified the distinct qualities of both characters, stating:

In this movie, we observe the world of John Wick’s fighting style through Eve’s perspective, and notice similarities due to shared training methods with assassins and ballerinas. However, it’s important to note that while Eve shares some common aspects with John Wick, she remains distinctly her own character.

It’s possible that, as John Wick 5 is being made, Ballerina might not be Eve de Armas’ only action movie appearance. Although she has expressed reservations about being typecast in action roles after achieving success with several of them, it might be difficult to decline a continued role in the John Wick series if given the opportunity.
