Eternals’ Gemma Chan Teases Possible Sequel Amidst MCU Cliffhangers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe consistently surprises its audience by delivering new content in cinemas and on Disney+. As fans eagerly anticipate upcoming Marvel films, they are still processing the events of “Captain America: Brave New World”. One significant storyline linked to “The Eternals” was introduced in this movie, where Celestial Island (known as Tiamut’s frozen body) played a crucial role by introducing adamantium and causing a global arms race. Now that the events of the 2021 film have finally integrated into the MCU, Gemma Chan has discussed the potential for more “The Eternals” content.

As someone who’s been on this Marvel Cinematic Universe journey for years, the recent projects following the epic conclusion of “Endgame” didn’t quite hit the same high notes as their predecessors. However, the finale of “Eternals” left us hanging with several intriguing cliffhangers, such as Tiamut’s body and a majority of the Eternals being captured by Celestial Arishem. In an interview with ComicBook about his upcoming film, “The Actor,” Chan subtly hinted at potential sequels, stating:

“Well, you know, every actor loves to return to a role that resonates with the audience. If given the opportunity, I would be more than happy to reprise my character in a future Eternals story.

Sometimes things surprise us, as we’re usually among the last ones to learn. Frankly, I remain optimistic. It feels like there are loose ends that need tying up and untold chapters waiting to be written, but time will tell.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my thoughts. The closing moments of the film and the credits scene for Eternals have certainly set the stage for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future. However, many of these plot points seem to be left hanging without resolution.

For instance, Harry Styles made his debut as Eros, while Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman prepares to wield the Ebony Blade and hears Mahershala Ali’s voice as Blade in the process. Unfortunately, Captain America: Brave New World appears to be the first project to delve deeply into the aftermath of that movie.

Initially, fans believed that The Eternals would play a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following their initial appearance. However, it appears that a sequel to The Eternals is not currently planned, as there have been no official announcements about its addition to the Marvel schedule. Despite this, the cast of the film is exceptional, and some enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting clarification on what transpired after the climactic events depicted in the original movie.

In her own right, Gemma Chan has previously made several appearances within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Before taking on the role of Sersi, Chan was featured in Captain Marvel as Minn-Erva. Having had a firsthand look at how the interconnected universe operates, she expresses hope that an Eternals sequel or further involvement of the team within the MCU might occur at some point down the line.

If Marvel doesn’t seem to be preparing a sequel film for The Eternals on the big screen, it could make sense for them to show up in future team-up projects such as Avengers: Endgame or Secret Wars. However, since these titles aren’t included in the 2025 movie schedule, we might need to be patient for further details.
