`Euphoria Season 3: Finally in Production`

It’s now three years since “Euphoria” Season 2 concluded, and it seems production for the eagerly awaited Season 3 has commenced. Originating from Sam Levinson and inspired by an Israeli miniseries with the same name, “Euphoria” premiered on HBO in June 2019. The show’s vibrant cast of young actors, alongside captivating narratives exploring teen romance, drama, and relationships in a manner seldom depicted on TV, propelled it to stardom. Given that HBO found a new hit as monumental as “Game of Thrones” in an unexpected series, the competition to produce more seasons is fierce.

A24’s official X page posted the first sneak peek of ‘Euphoria’ Season 3, showcasing Zendaya as Rue Bennett. The caption reads, “Euphoria Season 3 is currently being filmed.” As for when it will air, no release date has been set yet. However, rumors point to a potential 2025 debut on HBO.

Apart from Zendaya, it appears that Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, and Maude Apatow will reprise their roles for Season 3. Unfortunately, Barbie Ferreira has confirmed she won’t be part of the new season. There have been rumors about a conflict between Ferreira and Levinson on the show, which may have led to her character Kat having a reduced role in Season 2; however, Ferreira has denied these claims. Storm Reid, who portrays Zendaya’s younger sister, also won’t be returning for Season 3. Tragically, Angus Cloud, known for his role as Fez, will not reappear due to his passing in July 2023.

The Long Awaited Return of ‘Euphoria’

The gap between Season 3 of Euphoria and the previous seasons has been a bit more prolonged. Originally, the second season was supposed to air in 2021, but it got pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, HBO showed two specials on Dec. 6, 2020, and Jan. 24, 2021, which helped alleviate the wait until Season 2 in January 2022.

Unfortunately, delays for Season 3 were caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Sam Levinson’s dedication to a critically panned show called The Idol, and the tragic death of actor Angus Cloud. Despite rumors that production would start in 2023, it was halted for an entire year in 2024. Now, after nearly two years, filming is finally underway again.

One reason for the prolonged gap between seasons of the show could be attributed to the escalating fame of its stars. For instance, Zendaya was well-known prior to her role in Euphoria, but since then she has appeared in major blockbusters such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Challengers, and Dune films. Similarly, Sydney Sweeney has transitioned into a movie star with projects like Anybody but You and Immaculate. After season 2 of Euphoria, Jacob Elordi collaborated with renowned directors like Emerald Fennell on Saltburn, Sofia Coppola on Priscila, and Paul Schrader on Oh, Canada, and will soon feature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Hunter Schafer has made appearances in The Hunger Games: Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes, Kinds of Kindness, the lead role in the horror movie Cuckoo, and is even speculated to play Mystique in the X-Men MCU reboot.

As the fame of their cast continues to expand day by day, finding suitable time slots and fair compensation for them in Euphoria’s upcoming season could prove increasingly difficult. Although fans may anticipate that Season 3 could be its last, if the cast’s statements are any indication, it seems like the wait will be worthwhile.
