At the Grand Final on Saturday evening, Yuval Raphael, Israel’s entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest, experienced an unsuccessful stage intrusion during their performance.
The Swiss broadcaster SSR, who are responsible for airing the Eurovision competition, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that an individual was splashed with paint when a man and a woman tried to break past the security barrier surrounding the stage at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland.
Or simply:
A crew member of Swiss broadcaster SSR, who airs Eurovision, was hit by paint after two people tried to jump over the stage security barrier at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Following the conclusion of the Israeli act, two individuals attempted to breach a boundary and enter the stage. Their attempt was unsuccessful, but one of the protesters tossed paint, striking a crew member. Fortunately, the crew member sustained no serious injuries. The pair were escorted out of the venue and handed over to the local authorities for further action,” the Swiss broadcasting company explained in a statement.
Once again this year, I found myself engrossed in the Eurovision contest, but the event was overshadowed by a contentious issue – the inclusion of artist Raphael. Many had called for her exclusion due to political reasons, and both pro-Palestine and pro-Israel protests unfolded outside the arena, casting a shadow over the competition.
As Raphael, the lone performer who lived through the horrific Nova Festival tragedy on October 7, 2023, I took to a colossal spiral staircase adorning the stage for a breathtaking solo act. The captivating broadcast by Graham Norton on BBC One sparked buzz across social media platforms, leaving viewers at home questioning their audio quality as he concluded my performance with a hint of uncertainty: “I’m not exactly sure what you’re hearing from home. A bit of mixed reception here in the hall.
During the 2025 Eurovision Grand Final, any chaos caused by the unsuccessful stage invasion went unnoticed in the live broadcast, since Raphael’s performance drew applause from the arena spectators upon its conclusion.
In a warm-up event before Raphael’s second semi-final on Thursday, there was another interruption as six individuals entered waving flags and blowing whistles. Security personnel swiftly recognized these individuals and successfully escorted them out of the venue, as reported by the host broadcaster SRG earlier.
