Even Terrifier 3’s Art The Clown ‘Almost Vomited’ While Filming The Bloody Threequel

As a seasoned horror fan who’s seen more than my fair share of gore and gruesome scenes, I can confidently say that the Terrifier series has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is considered acceptable in the genre. The upcoming Terrifier 3, with its reputation for shocking content, is no exception.

Approximately every couple of months, a new horror movie appears on the scene, boasting to be the scariest thing since breaded brains, with spectators supposedly rushing for their barf bags. However, if there’s one series that has genuinely proven its worth in inducing queasiness and extreme gore, it’s the Terrifier franchise. The second movie even made news for making viewers sick to their stomachs. As we approach the release of Terrifier 3, it seems that not even David Howard Thornton, the actor behind the terrifying horror character Art the Clown, could handle some of the gruesome scenes.

As a devoted admirer of the Terrifier series, I can’t help but share my excitement about the intense filming experience of Terrifier 3, as shared by its Gotham alum, who brings chilling life to one of horror’s most petrifying characters, particularly in the realm of creepy clowns. Despite his extensive background in scary movies, I wasn’t expecting someone like him to still be affected by the gruesome aspects that come with the genre. Yet, it appears that this upcoming chapter has truly tested the boundaries even for a horror veteran like him. In an interview with Empire, David himself revealed:

There’s one particular thing I have a hard time stomaching. I don’t want to say what it was, but I almost vomited. Of course, everybody thought it was hysterical that I was having that reaction. Like: ‘Oh, we finally got him!’

Considering the history of the series for its intense and disturbing content, and the provocative full-length trailer for Terrifier 3, it’s challenging to imagine something so gruesome that could unnerve the actor who portrays the terrifying harlequin with such relish. However, whatever it might be—possibly handling blood—it appears to have significantly increased the series’ notorious level of shock value. Thornton has given a sneak peek into what’s to come.

People are gonna be surprised by the depravity that we get up to in that scene.

Wow, that is quite the statement, given the franchise’s horrific history.

The “Terrifier” series stands out in the horror genre for its commitment to practical effects and fearless exploration of the extreme. Unlike other horror films that often rely on shocking jumps or psychological suspense, this series concentrates solely on raw, gut-wrenching terror. This strategy is working effectively, with each new installment gaining more attention and attracting a larger audience eager to see how far the creators will go. Based on the main actor’s recent statements, it seems we might soon discover just how far they can push those boundaries.

If you’re yearning for nerve-wracking frights, the creators behind the malevolent trickster serial killer series have another venture coming to theaters before Art the Clown’s next appearance. Think a blend of The Running Man and 2016’s Nerve—the trailer for their upcoming horror movie has been released, and it promises intensity. The plot revolves around the Keenan family, who, seeking to reconnect and plan a vacation, find themselves swiftly plunged into terror. They inadvertently check into a hotel that’s more like a house of horrors, managed by a gang of killers participating in a lethal competition to see who can execute the most ingenious murder. What makes this even more enticing is that Damien Leone, the architect of the Killer Clown franchise, and his gifted team are responsible for the visual effects in this new production. Therefore, brace yourself for some imaginative and excessively gruesome deaths that only Leone and his team can orchestrate.

I can hardly contain my excitement as Terrifier 3 approaches! It’s clear that the creators aren’t pulling any punches, upping the ante with even more gruesome horror. Hearing tales of an actor nearly vomiting on set is rare, but when it comes from someone portraying a character as chilling as Art the Clown, it only adds to the suspense. Fans like me are eagerly counting down the days for the next installment in this unnerving trilogy, bracing ourselves for whatever nightmare-inducing scenes await us. Just remember to have your barf bags handy, because even David Howard Thornton was almost gagging at the ants!

In a planned release for October 11, 2024, the third installment of the “Terrifier” film series will hit cinemas.
