‘The Wolfman’ (2010)
Stream on January 1
In a modern retelling of the 1941 movie, titled “The Wolfman”, we find ourselves following the life of aristocrat Lawrence Talbot, played by Benicio Del Toro. His youth in the Victorian town of Blackmoor was overshadowed by tragedy; his mother passed away at a tender age, and his father, Sir John Talbot (portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins), was institutionalized. Following these events, Lawrence sought solace in America. However, upon receiving an urgent letter from his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), he feels compelled to return to his family estate.
Upon arriving, Lawrence finds his brother’s brutally attacked corpse, which sets him on a quest to find the culprit. It doesn’t take long for him to discover that his brother is not the only victim, as a series of eerie deaths have been occurring in the village. When a cautious Scotland Yard Inspector named Aberline (played by Hugo Weaving) arrives to probe into this unsettling situation, Lawrence finds himself reconnected with his long-estranged father. As he delves deeper, Lawrence uncovers a chilling fate that ties his family’s history to the recent slayings in the village. Catch The Wolfman on January 1st.
‘Get Away’
Stream on January 10
As a cinephile, I’d put it this way: “I recently watched ‘Get Away,’ written by Nick Frost and directed by Steffen Haars. It’s a chilling blend of humor and horror that finds my family and me vacationing on the eerie island of Svalta in Sweden. Unbeknownst to us, a ruthless serial killer is prowling these parts. At first, everything seems peaceful, but the moment we arrive, it becomes clear that something sinister is brewing, especially with the locals preparing for an enigmatic festival that’s said to celebrate their ominous past.
Initially, my family and I were set on our much-needed vacation to this island, despite the locals being a bit peculiar and off-putting. Determined to appreciate the untouched charm of the place, we persevered in enjoying its natural wonders. As the countdown to the festival began, however, we started to suspect that there might be something sinister lurking beneath the surface. The movie “Get Away,” featuring Nick Frost, Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft, and Maisie Ayres, premieres on January 10.

‘Grafted’
Stream on January 24
Under the guidance of director Sasha Rainbow, Grafted offers a grisly viewing experience as a Shudder Original. The narrative focuses on Wei, a Chinese student pursuing groundbreaking medical research at a distinguished New Zealand university. Despite her intellectual prowess, Wei’s social skills leave much to be desired, causing estrangement from her cousin Angela, who thrives in social circles and boasts an array of fashionable acquaintances.
Pursuing beauty and popularity relentlessly, Wei is prepared to go to any lengths to make her dreams come true. This leads her to delve into the research left behind by her deceased father, who was developing a groundbreaking skin grafting technique to erase the genetic facial mark she inherited. Unfortunately, her experiments start to veer towards the sinister, and Wei’s behavior grows more erratic. In the chilling film Grafted, Jess Hong portrays both Wei and Angela. This isn’t a movie for those with delicate sensibilities. Grafted will be available for streaming on January 24.
‘Dark Match’
Stream on January 31
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I must say that “Dark Match,” directed by Lowell Dean, is a Shudder Original that intrigued me instantly. This gripping tale revolves around a humble wrestling troupe, who, in their pursuit for better opportunities, agree to perform in an isolated rural town. The offer seemed too good to resist, offering pay rates far exceeding any they’d seen before – a red flag I wish they had heeded. Alas, it was too late when they realized the upcoming match was more than just a performance.
Unbeknownst to them, the small town was under the control of an enigmatic cult leader with sinister intentions. Our wrestling troupe found themselves unwittingly involved in a pay-per-view battle royale, a fight for survival. The film boasts an impressive cast including WWE superstar Chris Jericho, Sara Canning, Steven Ogg, and Michael Ecklund.
