As a die-hard South Park fan who grew up during its wild and unpredictable golden age, I can confidently say that these Halloween specials are some of the best the series has ever produced!
For those acquainted with me, they are aware that Halloween is my absolute favorite time. During this period, I relish the opportunity to relax, immerse myself in some top-notch horror movies or TV series, and bask in the eerie atmosphere. However, let me share another interest of mine that might surprise you: I’m a diehard fan of “South Park”.
Year after year, immersing myself in the outrageous antics of South Park has been a delight. Diving into the most contentious episodes of this series is always an intriguing experience. When Halloween and South Park intertwine, it’s a surefire sign that we’re in for some top-notch entertainment. To celebrate my beloved holiday, I took it upon myself to compile a list ranking the best South Park Halloween-themed episodes.
10. “Sons A Witches” (Season 22, Episode 6)
In the twenty-second season of “South Park,” an episode titled “Sons a Witches” was released, which followed Randy and his male companions embarking on a trip to the woods, dubbed a “Witch Week.” During this time, they would don witch costumes and indulge in heavy drinking and drug use for multiple days. However, one of them undergoes a transformation into an actual witch, leading to chaos in South Park.
Despite being an avid fan of the Harry Potter films and anything connected to witches, this particular episode fell short for me. It was filled with parodies of contemporary political events, but it failed to create a spooky atmosphere, which I typically enjoy. Unfortunately, this means that I missed out on another opportunity to appreciate an episode featuring Randy, who is one of my favorite characters.
9. “Tegridy Farms Halloween Special” (Season 23, Episode 5)
Previously, South Park had numerous special episodes. However, before these specials, there was a specific episode known as “The Tegridy Farms Halloween Special.” In this episode, Randy endeavored to market a new Halloween deal for marijuana, but due to his daughter’s involvement, the weed underwent an unexpected mutation.
The journey of Randy and Tegridy Farms on the show has been quite uneven. Some installments are truly outstanding, while others miss the mark entirely. This particular episode falls somewhere in between, not being one of the standout Halloween episodes. Normally, Randy shines in many of his main appearances, but this time, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. However, I must admit that the surprising hallucinations were a notable touch.
8. “Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers” (Season 17, Episode 4)
“Goths & Vamps United: The Fall of the Pretenders” – In this story, the Goth and Vamp groups join forces to devise a plan to eliminate the ultimate phonies – the Emo group. Unfortunately, one of their own has been transformed into an Emo kid.
Look, I’m biased here because I never really liked the Goth kids in South Park anyway. But the addition of brainwashing and everything else makes for a spooky entry. But it’s not my favorite.
7. “Korn’s Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery” (Season 3, Episode 10)
As a die-hard fan, let me share my take on the latest South Park Halloween special. Instead of the usual spooky festivities, the nu-metal sensation Korn graced our beloved town for a “Halloween Haunt”. However, things took an unexpected twist when they found themselves entangled in a baffling pirate ghost mystery.
This episode is quite clearly mimicking the style of “Scooby-Doo,” and I find it delightful. I’m the one who enjoys rewatching the finest “Scooby-Doo” movies and appreciating each new addition to the franchise, apart from “Velma.” However, Korn seems out of place. I understand their intention, but a different band could have been chosen instead, making the parody more effective.
6. “Night Of The Living Homeless” (Season 11, Episode 7)
Okay, so “Night of the Living Homeless” isn’t necessarily deemed a Halloween episode. Still, most will agree that Halloween is the best time to watch this episode, so it’s like an unofficial official Halloween episode. A parody of the many zombie movies out there, the episode follows how homeless people overtake South Park after Kyle donates money to a homeless man.
This episode serves as a clever commentary on genuine discussions about homelessness, but it also mocks popular zombie movies perfectly. Notably, it falls squarely into a Halloween top list. In essence, it’s an outstanding episode.
5. “The Scoots” (Seasons 22, Episode 5)
As a dedicated fan, I find myself completely captivated by the idea that “The Scoots” could be a contemporary reality! This episode delves into the lives of South Park’s residents, where electric scooters become an integral part of their daily life, taking over the streets. In an attempt to preserve tradition and safety on Halloween night, none other than Mr. Mackey steps up to discourage their use.
Typically, such episodes might not be highly rated, but I find myself thoroughly enjoying this one. It’s an exceptional horror tale tailored for modern children. Instead of door-to-door trick-or-treating, the story revolves around kids zooming around on scooters, gathering as much candy as they can, creating a chaotic scene. Additionally, it delves into the fact that Kenny can’t afford a phone and thus cannot ride a shared scooter. All in all, it’s an outstanding episode.
4. “Spookyfish” (Season 2, Episode 15)
Back in the days of South Park, I remember some truly outrageous episodes. One that sticks out was when Stan got this goldfish, but man, this wasn’t your average pet fish! It seemed evil, and it sure lived up to its reputation by offing people left and right. But here’s the twist – this fish hails from a different dimension, where everything has the opposite personality. So yes, we’re dealing with an otherworldly, downright malicious goldfish in that tale.
Absolutely, I get what you’re saying. It’s a bit confusing and off-beat, but it’s undeniably one of my favorite Halloween specials. The way they handle multiple dimensions and characters is impressive, and the humor is spot-on.
3. “Hell on Earth 2006” (Season 10, Episode 09)
In the year 2006 on Halloween, Satan organized an enormous party, the largest of its kind on Earth, in California. Simultaneously, some children conjured Biggie Smalls by reciting his name thrice while standing before a mirror.
As a gamer, I can’t find much to fault in this episode. The blend of spoofs from ‘Candyman’ and ‘My Super Sweet 16’ was seamless, hilarious, and perfectly timed. I’ve watched Satan don that Britney Spears costume more times than I can count, but it still cracks me up every single time!
2. “Pinkeye” (Season 1, Episode 7)
Without a doubt, this was the episode that had me laughing the hardest. The first Halloween special of “South Park,” titled “Pinkeye,” tells the story of South Park as a zombie outbreak starts, which the town doctor initially mistook for pinkeye.
As a die-hard fan of the undead, having grown up watching countless hours of zombie flicks, I can confidently say that this particular episode from the early days of South Park stands out as one of my all-time favorites. The show was pushing boundaries during those years, and this installment, with its unique take on the zombie genre, really resonated with me. It’s rare to find a piece of media that can perfectly capture the essence of what I love about zombies, but this episode does just that – it gets you in the mood for some good old-fashioned zombie mayhem!
1. “A Nightmare on FaceTime” (Season 16, Episode 12)
To wrap things up, I must rank “A Nightmare on FaceTime” as my top pick. Although the title is a witty take on the classic Nightmare on Elm Street films, the content itself mocks another one of Stephen King’s masterpieces, namely The Shining. The plot revolves around Randy losing his marbles inside a Blockbuster Home Video store in a humorous fashion.
reminiscing about my childhood, which was filled with Blockbuster video stores, this episode stirs up nostalgia and has me rolling with laughter at its spot-on portrayal and the side-splitting parody of “The Shining”. The subplot featuring Stan trick-or-treating over FaceTime with his friends just makes it even more enjoyable.
Here are some suggestions for enjoying Halloween this year, whether you prefer watching spooky films, making homemade apple cider, or purchasing treats:
