Every TV Show and Movie Taylor Sheridan Is Currently Working On

The talented multi-hyphenate Taylor Sheridan has left an indelible mark in Hollywood. His remarkable skills as writer, director, and producer have given rise to one of the most talked-about productions in the industry: the captivating series Yellowstone. Sheridan’s versatility extends beyond just the big and small screen, with appearances on beloved shows such as Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy, but also by creating an enthralling neo-Western world that audiences can’t seem to get enough of. This universe features a series of mesmerizing spin-offs, with more in the pipeline.

Sheridan, after departing from “Yellowstone,” grew the series with hit prequels like “1883” and “1923.” Following the controversial finale of the streaming sensation in December 2024, he has numerous originals lined up for fans who aren’t quite ready to bid farewell to the robust Dutton family. Let’s explore every TV show and film that Taylor Sheridan is actively involved in creating.

‘6666’

6666, focusing on the iconic Texas ranch depicted in seasons four and five of Yellowstone, delves into the storied past of the Four Sixes Ranch. This is where Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White), under John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) guidance, was sent to hone his skills as a cowboy, ready to face any challenges that come his way. Notably, Paramount has disclosed that the series will unfold at the actual ranch, spanning approximately 225 square miles and purchased by Sheridan in 2022 for an estimated $192 million.

Clues for ‘6666’ Are Likely Found in the Final Season of ‘Yellowstone’

Although the spin-off titled “6666” was initially announced in 2022, specific details about its plot and time period remain undisclosed. However, the fifth season of “Yellowstone” may have hinted at the series setup, as ranch hand Jimmy and his wife Emily (Kathryn Kelly) were depicted at the Four Sixes ranch. This suggests that the couple could be the main characters in the new show, and it appears that Taylor Sheridan may have been preparing for “6666” during the final season of “Yellowstone.” The storyline heavily emphasized Texas, and even Rip (Cole Hauser) and his men traveled to the ranch to assist with the Yellowstone cattle’s survival during winter, which could be a sign that they will play significant roles in the upcoming spin-off.

‘1944’

1944 represents another enticing prequel series set within the beloved Yellowstone universe, focusing on a fresh generation of Duttons managing the legendary Montana ranch, similar to the shows 1883 and 1923. This new installment is expected to delve deeper into the compelling history of the family, with the added twist that it will be set during World War II. As such, it may offer an intriguing perspective on America’s wartime struggles and potentially showcase the ranch in a unique way, as women stepped up to fill roles previously held by men who were off serving in the war.

Details for ‘1944’ Remain Vague

The details regarding the basis for the production titled “1944” haven’t been disclosed by either Sheridan or Paramount, as its creator is working on multiple projects. However, Tom Prince, an executive at 101 Studios who produced “Yellowstone”, hinted that the series will serve as a sequel to the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led “1923”. In 2023, Prince suggested that filming would primarily occur in the Bitterroot Valley due to its resemblance to Chief Joseph Ranch, which functions as the Dutton homestead in “Yellowstone”. As of now, no cast or crew members for “1944” have been publicly announced.

‘The Madison’

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share my anticipation for “The Madison,” a captivating neo-Western spin-off that boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Notable names like Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox will grace our screens in this sequel. The story unfolds as the McIntosh family, having left the bustling New York City behind, settles into their new life in Montana’s Madison River valley. This series promises to be a profound exploration of grief and human connection, delving deeper into the lives of these characters after the events of “Yellowstone.” I can hardly wait!

The Madison Explores Montana With a Different Lens

In August of 2024, I was chosen to play the lead character, Stacy Clyburn, a wealthy matriarch, in the series titled The Madison. I will also serve as an executive producer for this project. As shared by Paramount Global’s co-CEO, my extensive acting experience makes me the ideal choice to anchor the newest installment of the Yellowstone universe, Madison, created by Taylor Sheridan. Filming wrapped up in December 2024, but a release date has yet to be announced. In an interview with Variety in November 2024, director Christina Alexandra Voros mentioned that both shows share a connection through the shared landscape they depict, providing a common ground for viewers.

As I stand amidst the breathtaking Montana landscapes, it’s almost as if I’m gazing at an entirely new side of a polished gemstone. The grandeur of the landscape and my own insignificance within it resonates in a way that feels distinctly unique. While there are echoes of familiar themes in the vastness before me, the perspective from which I view it is remarkably different.

Untitled Beth Dutton & Rip Wheeler Series

In the course of its five thrilling seasons, the enduring romance between feisty and tenacious character Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and resilient and steadfast Rip Wheeler (portrayed by Cole Hauser) emerged as a central element of the series, earning them a place in fans’ hearts. Instead of making them the main characters for a sixth season, Sheridan decided to bring Yellowstone to an end and produce a spin-off centered around Beth and Rip. This new series is expected to feature returning cast members from the original successful show reprising their roles.

Beth & Rip Are Back For More Action

Because the unnamed show is set right after the storyline of “Yellowstone” and includes many familiar faces, it’s the only spin-off in this franchise that will bear the name “Yellowstone.” Beth and Rip’s upcoming series will see them venturing to a fresh cattle ranch in Dillon, Montana following the Dutton daughter’s land purchase in the final episode. The spin-off will carry on the narrative of its predecessor, with the duo facing off against both old and new adversaries as they strive to turn the ranch into their permanent home while making it prosper. Fans can look forward to this continuation of the story.

‘Empire of the Summer Moon’

Apart from being an exceptional storyteller on television, Taylor Sheridan is also the ingenious brain behind several critically-acclaimed films such as “Hell or High Water,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” and “Those Who Wish Me Dead.” This versatile writer, director, and producer is currently immersed in transforming the S.C. Gwynne book “Empire of the Summer Moon” into a project. This book offers a comprehensive and vividly detailed historical narrative about the forty-year conflict between the Comanche tribe and white settlers as they fought for dominance over the American West.

Sheridan’s Ultimate Passion Project

Sheridan deeply cherishes “Empire of the Summer Moon,” a work that delves into the Comanches, a renowned warrior tribe. The book highlights Quanah, their exceptional chief, and also investigates his background as well as his connections with Samuel Burk Burnett, a cattleman and rancher who later owned the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas – a property Sheridan now shares ownership of.

As a passionate film lover, I can’t help but feel thrilled when I hear that one of my favorite authors, S.C. Gwynne, sees his literary work coming to life on the big screen. When he told Deadline that “there isn’t anyone more qualified” than Sheridan to portray the harrowing events and history, it resonated with me deeply. I can only imagine the compelling narrative we’ll witness when Sheridan brings Gwynne’s words to life.

His grasp of the legends and true stories of the Old West is profound and complex. I’m excited that he’s taking on this endeavor.

‘2024’

In the month of May, 2023, when the word got out that Kevin Costner was stepping away from Yellowstone during its fifth and final season, there were whispers about Matthew McConaughey potentially taking the lead role in a sequel series called 2024. Initially, it seemed like McConaughey would be at the helm of Taylor Sheridan’s original project, but as time passed, the project was revised and transformed into another drama by the creator, titled The Madison. This left the future of 2024 and Matthew McConaughey’s role in the Yellowstone universe uncertain.

The Fate of McConaughey’s Project Remains Unknown

In March 2023, it was confirmed that McConaughey would officially be part of Sheridan’s prosperous empire. However, negotiations started to slow down as it was said that McConaughey wanted $2.5 million per episode to play the Dutton character. This high fee made it difficult for him to accept other jobs because they might conflict with the show’s filming schedule. With several spin-offs in development by Sheridan, a McConaughey-focused series is uncertain, especially since he didn’t appear in The Madison. As of now, no updates have been provided about the True Detective actor joining the expanding universe.
