As a seasoned gamer with a hearty appetite for movies, I’ve been keeping my eyes glued to the silver screen ever since my days of playing “High School Musical” on repeat back in the day. And let me tell you, Zac Efron has come a long way from Troy Bolton! The guy’s got talent, charm, and an undeniable knack for picking roles that keep us hooked.
Zac Efron, initially known for his role in Disney’s “High School Musical,” has successfully transitioned into a respected adult actor and appears to be a well-rounded individual. He swiftly became a versatile leading man on the big screen, appearing in various genres like musicals, dramas, and romantic comedies. Later, using his fame, he engaged in charitable work, starring in and producing the 2020 Netflix documentary series “Down to Earth with Zac Efron,” where he explored different cultures’ attempts at living sustainably and eco-friendly lives.
In recent years, Efron has been exceptionally active as an actor, gracing screens in no less than seven films between 2022 and 2024. These include “A Family Affair,” where his surgically altered jaw left many viewers in awe, and “The Iron Claw” from 2023, which garnered him some of the most praiseworthy acting accolades of his career for his portrayal of the real-life wrestler Kevin Von Erich. Critics at Looper even dubbed it an “emotional body slam.” It appears that Efron shows no signs of slowing down, with two more films and a series already in the works and ready to hit production.
Three Men and a Baby
One of the biggest surprise movie hits of the late 1980s was “Three Men and a Baby.” It starred Ted Danson, Tom Selleck, and Steve Gutenberg as the titular men who find themselves having to figure out how to care for a child named Mary that is dropped off at their doorstep. Directed by Leonard Nimoy — yep, Spock himself — the modestly budgeted comedy raked in an impressive $168 million at the box office in 1987 and got a sequel, “Three Men and a Little Lady,” three years later.
Nowadays, you can expect that most hit movies will eventually get a remake or reboot. Regarding the upcoming remake of “Three Men and a Baby,” here’s what we know: Zac Efron has agreed to star in this project. Currently, he is the only actor confirmed for the film, which Mo Marable, famed for his work on the TV series “Woke,” is directing. The script was written by Will Reichel. Although a release date hasn’t been announced yet, it will premiere exclusively on Disney+ instead of hitting theaters.
Famous
In February 2024, it was disclosed that Zac Efron would feature in a suspenseful film exploring the risky dynamics between celebrities and their fans. Titled “Famous”, this movie is adapted from Blake Crouch’s book of the same name. The plot will involve Efron portraying two characters: a renowned Hollywood actor, as well as an ardent fan who becomes overly fixated on the star. Jody Hill, famous for working with Danny McBride on shows such as “Eastbound & Down,” “Vice Principals,” and “The Righteous Gemstones”, will direct this intriguing project.
The popular book “Famous” is being translated for the cinema by Chad Hodge, who has a history of turning Crouch’s works into screenplays for Hollywood. In the past, Hodge adapted Crouch’s books “Wayward Pines” and “Good Behavior” into television series with those same titles. This will be his first time adapting one of Crouch’s novels for the big screen. However, it seems that “Famous” might not hit theaters anytime soon as it was just recently announced and Zac Efron spent the summer of 2024 traveling through Europe and taking a short break from his career following his busy schedule.
The Studio
In March 2025, Apple TV+ will debut “The Studio,” a new project co-created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. In this series, Rogen takes on the role of a Hollywood studio head dealing with the quirks of creative personnel. This setup allows for numerous well-known actors and personalities to portray caricatures of themselves, resulting in an incredibly star-studded production that’s been years since we’ve seen such a lineup.
In this production, it’s confirmed that actors Katheryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Catherine O’Hara are portraying fictional characters. The clip heavily involves Paul Dano and Bryan Cranston as well, but their roles seem too substantial for them to be playing themselves; the identities of their characters have yet to be disclosed. Moreover, a variety of A-list celebrities appear in the trailer, including Zac Efron, Charlize Theron, Anthony Mackie, Zoë Kravitz, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, and others. It’s unclear at this point whether these stars will only make brief appearances or if they will have a continuing role within the series.
