Though many dedicated TV enthusiasts have faced the disappointing mid-series cancellations of numerous shows, fans of MGM+’s supernatural horror series “From” currently don’t need to (at least not immediately). After the gripping Season 3 finale in November of last year, the creators announced that it has already been greenlit for a fourth season, and fans eagerly anticipate delving deeper into its intriguing narrative.
Ever since its 2022 debut, I’ve found myself captivated by a show that delves into a chilling American heartland town where people can’t escape. But what truly sends shivers down my spine isn’t just the enforced confinement; it’s the ominous forest encircling the town, teeming with nighttime beasts that blend seamlessly with ordinary folks, deceiving their victims into a tragic fate. This thrilling production is the brainchild of John Griffin (Crater), and boasts executive producers Jeff Pinkner and Jack Bender from Lost, as well as the dynamic Russo Brothers from Avengers: Endgame. With its cast led by Harold Perrineau (Lost), this series consistently maintains an unsettling, mind-bending ambiance that hooks viewers instantly. Now, it stands tall among the most gripping horror series gracing our television screens today.
Anticipating enthusiasts are on the edge of their seats for the upcoming Season 4 of “From.” Here’s what we currently know regarding the production schedule, potential release dates, reprising actors, and the projected storyline for this new season.
‘From’ Season 4 Production and Release Updates
As a dedicated cinephile, I must say that while fans of “From” eagerly anticipate the resolution of Season 3’s cliffhangers in Season 4, they’ll need to exercise some patience before unraveling the mysteries. The showrunners announced the greenlight for the next season just before the Season 3 finale aired, an encouraging sign of the studio’s faith in the critically acclaimed series. However, production for the new season hasn’t commenced yet, making a quick turnaround seem unlikely. Although this may be disheartening to some viewers, the extended timeline allows the creative team ample time to meticulously craft the story and deliver a compelling continuation of our beloved show.
According to recent reports, filming for Season 4 is anticipated to start towards the end of this year, although an exact date has yet to be revealed. If all goes according to plan with MGM+, the series might premiere sometime in 2026, though no specific dates have been given. Production will take place in Nova Scotia, the same location where the show has already been filmed, and it’s set to deliver 10 fresh episodes. However, no additional information or trailers are available at present.
Who Is Returning for ‘From’ Season 4?
As a true fan of this captivating series, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming season! It wouldn’t be the same without our charismatic town sheriff, Boyd Stevens, played by the talented Harold Perrineau. So, get ready to witness him once again, leading the ensemble cast. Among the familiar faces returning are Catalina Sandino Moreno as Tabitha Matthews, David Alpay as Jade, Elizabeth Saunders as Donna, Corteon Moore as Ellis, Chloe Van Landschoot as Kristi, and Scott McCord as Victor. And let’s not forget the enigmatic Man in Yellow, who has been subtly weaving his way through the story since the very first season. While it remains a mystery whether he is the central antagonist or not, Season 4 promises to shed more light on his intriguing role within the grand scheme of things.
On the contrary, there are certain characters who won’t reappear on the series. Specifically, Tian-Chen Liu (portrayed by Elizabeth Moy), Dale (played by Cliff Saunders), and Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) all met their ends in Season 3. The demise of Jim Matthews was particularly poignant, marking the conclusion of that season. However, given the show’s time-travel elements, it’s possible that these characters could resurface at some point in the narrative. Furthermore, the creators have a history of introducing new cast members, so it’s likely that Season 4 will follow suit. In essence, we’ll simply have to stay tuned for updates.
What Can Fans Expect from ‘From’ Season 4’s Plot?
Similar to hit sci-fi series such as Lost and Fringe, From follows a pattern of gradually intensifying suspense leading to major plot surprises, keeping viewers hooked because each revelation raises even more questions about the true nature of events. This method also gives writers the freedom to steer the story wherever they wish, resulting in a flexible structure that ensures longevity.
Consequently, the last episode of Season 3 held its fair share of surprises while also exposing Fromville’s ominous, recurring nature. Smiley has resurfaced, adding to the cast’s growing despair regarding their future in Fromville. However, Jim’s sudden demise might serve as a catalyst for the townsfolk to confront the monsters with a more decisive approach. Here’s hoping that we witness the survivors learning from past mistakes and forging a new direction. The specifics of this transformation are yet to be unveiled.
In Season 4, we can expect a focus on Tabitha and Jade, who were unveiled as the reborn forms of Miranda and Christopher. Additionally, Julie’s storyline will continue, considering her recent time-travel experience at the end of the previous season. The showrunners might also delve deeper into the reincarnation of the Smiley creature, providing additional details following its earlier death by Boyd after Tabitha gave birth to it.
Essentially, the direction for Season 4 of “From” remains uncertain, leaving us to make assumptions in the meantime. John Griffin shared with The Hollywood Reporter that they’ve purposefully kept things open, allowing for an element of surprise much like a road trip where you know your starting and ending points but enjoy the journey, getting lost along the way and discovering unexpected things because you understand the overall structure of the journey. So, fans can be confident that the creators of “From” have a clear idea of how to make the ride entertaining, whatever direction it takes us in Season 4.
