In anticipation of season 2 of “Wednesday,” star Jenna Ortega has another chilling project in the works. Titled “Hurry Up Tomorrow,”, this horror movie is directed by the filmmaker behind “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.” Joining Ortega are Barry Keoghan and Abel Tesfaye, also known as global superstar The Weeknd. The story revolves around a tormented musician battling insomnia who embarks on a mysterious journey with a stranger (Ortega) that threatens to unravel his very identity. According to Entertainment Weekly, exclusive images from the film offer a glimpse into the eerie horror experience hitting theaters on May 16.
The photos offer a sneak peek into the distinctive lighting of Shults’ forthcoming movie, which was followed by an Entertainment Weekly interview with both the director and The Weeknd. What makes this preview particularly intriguing, though, is Shults’ insights on the fascinating journey that led to the creation of this visually appealing yet unsettling project. Interestingly, the movie is closely tied to and greatly influenced by The Weeknd’s latest album with the same name. At the time of filming, the album was still in its demo phase. During the scriptwriting process for the film, these two artists collaborated to produce a movie and an album, each piece influencing the other as they evolved.
As a film enthusiast, his creativity ignited a wild spark within me. It wasn’t about creating an album then transitioning to a movie; rather, it was an impulse – a shared vision of, ‘Let’s bring this story to life on the big screen.‘ He had some initial melodies, primarily demos and instrumentals, which he shared with me. These tunes fueled an uncontainable writing frenzy between us.
Shults and The Weeknd Created a Cinematic Horror That Looks at How Music Sounds
Following a struggle with mental health that temporarily hindered him, The Weeknd has firmly established his unique artistic identity. Known for his critiques, satires, and observations of the quirks and pitfalls of fame, particularly within the music industry, the “Starboy” singer has often woven these themes into his music. However, he made a daring statement on the contentious subject in his acting debut, the critically panned HBO series The Idol, co-starring Lily-Rose Depp, which was created by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson.
Currently, having faced a public battle regarding his career, The Weeknd is further investing himself into his unique genre for his latest venture. He’s eager to exhibit the dark side effects of fame through this project. In his own words:
“I’ve been grappling with my career in the public eye, and now I’m diving deeper into my niche for this upcoming project. I want to reveal the harsh realities of fame.
“Going through the process of writing, creating, and editing, I found this experience incredibly reflective and healing. It underscored for me the power of this medium to spark discussions on personal feelings, mental well-being, and vulnerability.”
If just the appearance of Hurry Up Tomorrow doesn’t convince its audience of its potential, then the horror displayed, stemming from real-life experiences, should certainly pique the interest of horror enthusiasts. With The Weeknd, Ortega, and Keoghan at the helm, the upcoming film release on May 16 is creating a buzz.
