As a long-time admirer of Telugu cinema and its dynamic personalities, I find myself captivated by the insights shared by none other than Daggubati Suresh Babu during his recent roundtable interview with TopMob. His unique perspective on the industry’s ever-evolving landscape, coupled with a deep understanding of audience preferences and market trends, truly resonates with me.
In a private meeting arranged by TopMob, film exhibitor Daggubati Suresh Babu recently engaged in a discussion with his peers about the Telugu film industry. When asked to identify the top box office earner among Telugu stars, he shared his thoughts during this gathering.
Responding to this, the filmmaker explained, “There’s always a blend. Independent actors carry significant influence. A director working without a star doesn’t hold the same clout as when they have one. With an exceptionally talented director and an independent star, the potential for greater success becomes even stronger.
According to the exhibitor, each of these stars – Pawan Kalyan, Prabhas, and Bunny (Allu Arjun) – are expected to have impressive box office openings in their respective films. However, Pawan Kalyan might stand out with the best opening, while Prabhas is predicted to have a phenomenal start. Bunny’s film will also have a good opening. The exhibitor noted that their success depends not only on their individual talents but also on the type of movie and team they are working with.
Suresh Babu added, “Is Prabhas currently the most prominent actor in India? We can’t definitively say since he has Kalki and Baahubali…but he hasn’t had significant roles beyond that. It’s interesting to debate who’s bigger between Ajith, Vijay, or Rajinikanth, and so on.
It’s hard to definitively say who has the largest fan base, but in Andhra, Pawan Kalyan is particularly popular. When he works with smaller directors, his films open to big success. If he collaborates with a more prominent director, we can only speculate about the outcome. Furthermore, if he were to create a film that doesn’t align with the audience’s preferences, similar to Johnny, they might not be interested.
Suresh Babu emphasized the importance of these discussions, noting they’re beneficial as they allow us to talk about stars and filmmakers.
