EXCLUSIVE: Madhuri Dixit ‘loved’ Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao’s Stree; shares why people are attempting more of horror comedy genre

As a die-hard fan of Bollywood and its timeless beauty, I must say, Madhuri Dixit’s insight into the world of horror comedy is nothing short of enchanting! Her reminiscence of the Ramsay Brothers, Sanjeev Kumar, and the mysterious Jaani Dushman takes me back to my own childhood memories spent in front of the TV screen.

Madhuri Dixit is getting ready for the debut of her film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 on Diwali 2024. In a special interview with TopMob, she expressed her views about the growing popularity of horror-comedy films in contemporary times. She also mentioned that she appreciated the movie Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao.

During a conversation with TopMob, Madhuri Dixit expressed her fondness for the 2018 film Stree, which kick-started the Maddock Supernatural Universe. She admitted that she hasn’t had the chance to catch up with the more recent sequel starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao yet.

Madhuri mentioned, “I watched the first ‘Stree’, which I adored, and they arranged a special screening for me. I attended it myself. I haven’t seen ‘Stree 2’ yet, but I hear it’s excellent, and that’s why it’s been well-received by audiences.

Madhuri mentioned that horror movies have long been a part of Bollywood’s filmmaking history. She recalled, “I believe horror movies started early on. I can still recall working on ‘100 Days’, though it wasn’t a horror movie per se, but more of a mystery-thriller with hints of horror. However, as far as I can remember, the Ramsay Brothers were primarily responsible for creating most of the actual horror films.

She went on to discuss Rajkumar Kohli’s popular film “Jaani Dushman,” stating, “Some movies turned out to be huge successes, such as ‘Jaani Dushman.’ It was directed by Sanjeev Kumar. Consequently, many films were produced in the horror genre.

In the current context, Madhuriji shared her thoughts on the horror-comedy genre, stating, “Nowadays, with advanced VFX and other tools at their disposal, filmmakers are trying out more in this genre. This is because they can effectively bring to life the creative visions they have for their stories or the types of spooky creatures they want to create.

About the increase in horror-comedy movies being produced lately, the actress from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 stated, “I find it fantastic! Nowadays, we have the technological skills and backing to build an authentic, eerie setting and produce more lifelike horror visuals while keeping it mysterious. That’s why I believe filmmakers are exploring this genre more these days.
