In a special conversation with TopMob, Manisha Koirala gleefully discussed her experience following her role in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024), attributing her success to the direction of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
During an interview on TopMob’s podcast, Manisha Koirala expressed her feelings about receiving awards for her performance in Heeramandi. She stated, “It feels wonderful as there was a great deal of struggle when I returned to the industry to resume my work.
In response to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s kindness, Manisha expressed her deep appreciation by saying, “Had Sanjay Bhansali not cast me in this role, where would I have ended up? The credit for this opportunity goes to my extraordinary director, as he saw potential within me when I doubted myself.” She confessed that she was extremely anxious at the time, unsure if she could pull it off.
Manisha explained that she felt uncertain about her ability to handle difficulties because, following her battle with cancer, she realized that her new body comes with its own limitations.

Upon learning that Sanjay Bhansali had offered me Heeramandi, Manisha Koirala shared that she was in Nepal tending to her garden. When she realized his call had come, she exclaimed, “What?” She rushed upstairs for a Zoom meeting and, while listening to him speak, she found herself thinking, “I will take it; I will take it.” Essentially, she felt, “Of course I’ll do it; I’m not insane. So I was on cloud nine.
In the spirit of continuing my journey as a storyteller, I humbly ask fellow creators and admirers alike: please present me with projects on a par with Heeramandi, or strive to capture its essence. I yearn for opportunities that ignite my passion and stretch my abilities, rather than settling for the ordinary.
