As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in cinema and a soft spot for Telugu films, I must say that Nani’s insights during his Masterclass interview with TopMob were both enlightening and intriguing. His perspective on the potential remakes of his films, particularly Hi Papa (Hi Nanna) and Gang Leader, offers valuable insights into the nuances of cross-regional adaptations.
Actor Nani recently participated in an exclusive interview with TopMob for a Masterclass, as his film Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is about to hit the screens. During the conversation, he was asked which of his movies would be suitable for a Bollywood remake, and he stated that Hi Nanna should not be replicated.
The actor stated, “Hi Papa (Hi Nanna) is a widely acclaimed movie. It was quite the sensation, and I believe it was watched by everyone in Hindi. Attempting a remake wouldn’t be successful.”
Nani further discussed films that might be remade in Hindi, such as Nenu Local and Gang Leader; he expressed, “Gang Leader seems like a fantastic concept. To be honest, when I first saw the trailer for Jawan featuring Shah Rukh Khan and the five female leads, I initially thought it was Gang Leader. However, upon watching it, I realized it wasn’t exactly that, but the idea remains intriguing.”
As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the potential expansion of “Gang Leader” into a franchise, I can say that there haven’t been any discussions regarding this topic yet. However, the film seems to resonate deeply with audiences wherever I go, and I believe its enduring appeal lies in its unique portrayal of five women and the quirky character of Pencil. While it was well-received during its initial run in theaters, over time, it has grown increasingly popular.
Furthermore, the actor himself mentioned that spectators called out for Ante Sundaraniki. He also suggested Shyam Singha Roy as another viable choice, thanks to its reincarnation theme. Remaking Dasara would be challenging, but Pilla Zamindar could potentially work. Ashta Chamma is another strong option, being his first film and a good one at that – similar to The Importance of Being Earnest.

1. Nani’s Gang Leader (Directed by Vikram Kumar) tells a tale about five women who turn to a crime novelist named Pencil for aid, as they aim to avenge the deaths of their beloved ones. In contrast, Ashta Chamma is an interpretation of Oscar Wilde’s play The Importance of Being Earnest, serving as Nani’s entrance into Telugu cinema.
Nani is primed for his upcoming role in the vigilante film “Saripodhaa Sanivaaram,” which will be helmed by director Vivek Athreya. This movie is scheduled to hit the big screens on August 29, 2024.
