Madhu Chopra, Priyanka Chopra‘s mom, has looked back on the early stages of her daughter’s professional journey. She also shared a memory about a director who asked for a one-on-one reading with the actress.
Speaking exclusively with you, I, Madhu Chopra, was asked if I’ve ever encountered a challenging industry scenario concerning my daughter, Priyanka Chopra. In response, I shared that I haven’t personally experienced any such difficulties as she is quite self-reliant and makes her own decisions.
Later on, she recalled an incident where a director suggested that they let her mother wait outside while he shared the script with her, to which she replied: “If this script cannot be presented in front of my mother, do you think I would do it? No, I won’t.” (Implying that if the script was not appropriate for her mother to hear, then she wouldn’t agree to perform it.)
She stepped outside. Being consistently bold, she never shied away from risking a movie, and she always had an alternative strategy ready. She forged her own path and followed it, as she put it.

In the early stages of her daughter’s career, Chopra herself used to be present on set because it was crucial, as she put it, laughing, “I would often sit there, seeming rather like a watchful specter.
Chopra clarified her choice, stating that she had grown up in a highly protective environment and we, as outsiders, tend to believe whatever we hear. She emphasized the importance of caution due to the uncertain nature of the situation. Moreover, since they only had one daughter, they couldn’t afford to take any chances.
