Listening to Rakesh Roshan recount his experiences working with these two mischievous lads made me feel as if I was transported back to the 90s, where the scent of freshly brewed chai and the sound of laughter echoed through the sets.
Back in 1995, the movie “Karan Arjun” became famous for various reasons, one being the strong friendship portrayed between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan on screen. More recently, director Rakesh Roshan recalled how these two stars were full of energy and playful antics during filming.
Back in the ’90s, I, a die-hard movie enthusiast, couldn’t help but feel a thrill when the legendary director, Rakesh Roshan, opened up about his behind-the-scenes experiences during the making of Karan Arjun. Straight away, the actor-director thought back on his past experiences and flashed a grin. He also reminisced about his daily routine during filming and shared, “In the morning, I used to wake up at five o’clock. My work was like this.
Roshan additionally discussed an intriguing habit the two actors had when waking up. He stated, “Shahrukh would wake up after being told to do so and then look at me quizzically as if questioning why I had disturbed his sleep. Salman, on the other hand, would ignore my presence completely, covering his head with his hands and telling me he’d be awake by 9 o’clock.
Even though the actors occasionally dozed off during meetings, the Krrish director always required them to stand before him, fearing they might fall asleep again. However, his management of the situation didn’t end there; Hrithik Roshan also made sure that everyone was clean and punctual for their appointments.
Indeed, he grasped the playful dynamics among his co-stars on set, seeing they often engaged in mischief and japes. He acknowledged that, as an actor himself once upon a time, he was much like them. Yet, he underscored the fact that with time and acquired wisdom, the same actor evolves, matures, and undergoes transformation.
In addition to Karan Arjun, notable performances were delivered by Mamta Kulkarni, Rakhi, Amish Puri, and Kajol. Following its premiere, this film achieved great success and ranked among the top-earning movies of 1995.
