As a dedicated cinephile who has witnessed a plethora of performances, I must admit that Rashmika Mandanna’s monologue scene in Pushpa 2: The Rule is undeniably a standout moment. Her ability to convey a multitude of emotions within a compact time frame is truly commendable.
In a recent interview with TopMob, Rashmika Mandanna, who stars alongside Allu Arjun and Fahadh Faasil in the movie “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” shared her thoughts on her powerful monologue scene that plays a crucial role throughout the film. The highly anticipated sequel hit theaters on December 5, 2024, and has been receiving great success.
Speaking of the same topic, Rashmika Mandanna reminisced, “When I began filming for Pushpa 2, the director, Sukumar sir, informed me that Srivalli had a particular storyline and a significant, emotional scene. He said we’d discuss it later, but I’d need to deliver a strong performance when the time came.
The actress mentioned that she was always inquisitive, and a particular sequence called Jaathara took up around 20-21 minutes of the film. This part required about 3-4 months of shooting. However, director Sukumar doesn’t stick to a strict script; he improvises as he goes along. When it came to this scene, we were still working out our lines on the spot. To her surprise, she ended up with 3-4 pages worth of dialogue, all spoken by herself.
She added, “In my acting style, I consider myself as a collaborative performer. When we’re working together, I deliver my line and listen to yours. Based on your response, I adjust my delivery for the next line. There are moments when the dialogue might pause, but I continue the scene, engaging without uttering a word.
In advance, Rashmika explained that Pushpa had been finding her brother-in-law irritating since the initial film, and this lengthy dialogue scene represented an emotional release for her. With her mother-in-law attempting to control her, as well as Srivalli grappling with her pregnancy, the scene became a pivotal moment where viewers would sympathize with Allu Arjun’s character, Pushpa, and his Srivalli.
Furthermore, the actress also remarked, “I aimed to leave a lasting impression and, since they often refer to me as the ‘Queen of Expression,’ it seemed fitting to utilize my abilities. In the scene, I moved from fury to exhaustion, then more anger, followed by sadness, and finally laughter – essentially saying, if you provoke me, expect a response ten times over.
