As a die-hard fan of Vikas Bahl’s cinematic storytelling, I must say that his dedication to crafting uplifting narratives is truly inspiring. The way he transformed the ending of Vash into a more positive and hopeful tale for Shaitaan showcases his unique vision as a director. It’s like he’s a magician, taking raw materials and turning them into something beautiful, full of joy and happiness.
As an ardent admirer of Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan, I can’t help but share my excitement about their movie, Shaitaan, which is reportedly the second highest-grossing Indian horror film ever! This masterpiece was under the visionary direction of Vikas Bahl, who drew inspiration from the 2023 Gujarati film, Vash.
In the thrilling roundtable discussion with Amar Kaushik, Anees Bazmee, and Aditya Sarpotdar, none could captivate me more than Vikas Bahl, who fearlessly delved into the making of Shaitaan. When the question arose as to why he altered the conclusion of the Gujarati film Vash, the source of his inspiration, the director passionately explained that he’d never craft a tale where despair claims the final act.
Bahl explained that his intention is for the viewers to depart from the screening with a sense of joy. Consequently, regardless of the events unfolding within the film, the final outcome will consistently be uplifting and joyful.
He added, “I don’t want to tell a story where I tell the people the world is hopeless, things are not going to happen, the world is going to die. No, it’s not happening in my storytelling. I was very clear when I saw the first one (Vash).”
Watch the entire interview below:
The director of The Chillar Party admitted that he had watched the Gujarati film during the daytime. As a result, when conversations about its scenes ensued, he found himself puzzled since, for a large portion of the viewing, he was covering his face with a pillow.
In a different tone, the director of Shaitaan, referring to Vash’s ending as bleak and disheartening, mentioned that his team collectively agreed with him when expressing a preference for a hopeful finale where the hero emerges victorious. Bahl explained that he felt it was important not to let audiences believe that dark magic could triumph over our lives.
After pondering for a while, we found it challenging to defeat that final scene. Moreover, when your protagonist is Ajay Devgn, enduring relentless attacks by Madhavan for two hours, it’s difficult to convince the audience that Ajay won’t ultimately triumph, he asserted. To clarify, Shaitaan featured key performances from Jyothika, Janki Bodiwala, and Anngad Raaj in addition to Ajay Devgn and Madhavan.
