EXCLUSIVE: Tumbbad actor Sohum Shah compares Shah Rukh Khan to God, calls meeting King Khan 'dream come true'

As a humble admirer of the arts and a fellow sojourner on the winding path of Bollywood, I find myself deeply inspired by the journey of Sohum Shah. His tale resonates with me, as we both share the dreams of outsiders yearning to make a mark in the seemingly impenetrable realm of Hindi cinema.

Sohum Shah’s 2018 film Tumbbad, which was recently re-released in cinemas, has been receiving overwhelming acclaim from the public. As the actor-producer basks in the success of his folk horror movie, he shared insights about the film, his career, and his journey with TopMob. In this discussion, Shah also revealed that it was through Shah Rukh Khan that he learned that outsiders can indeed break into Bollywood and establish themselves.

During our private conversation, Sohum Shah shared that while he’s eager to expand his horizons, Shah Rukh Khan has been a source of inspiration for his entry into the industry. He mentioned that if it weren’t for SRK venturing into Bollywood from another city, many might not have realized that people across India could become stars in the film industry here.

In simpler terms, the Tumbbad actor stated in Hindi that if Shah Rukh Khan didn’t exist, Bombay (Mumbai) and its film industry would have been exclusive to locals who live there, and outsiders wouldn’t be welcomed or given a chance to participate.

Coming from Delhi, an outsider himself, he carved out a unique place in the industry – a feat that leaves me inspired and compels me to make my own attempt. So, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey continues to be a source of inspiration for me.

In 2018, Shah shared that the Jawan actor was impressed by the Tumbbad trailer and even tweeted about it. Later, the actor reminisced about his encounter with his role model, Shah Rukh Khan. He expressed his reverence for SRK, likening him to a deity, saying, “What man can be less than God to me?” The Dahaad actor further confessed that he used to eagerly await interviews featuring the Pathaan star in the past. Shah also mentioned that he held immense respect for the King of Bollywood, and finding out that this person appreciates his work is a “Dream come true.
