EXCLUSIVE: Tumbbad star Sohum Shah talks about outsider vs insider debate; shares he hasn't learnt networking yet: ‘Mere bas ki baat hi nahin…’

As an ardent fan who has witnessed the journey of Sohum Shah from the small screens to the big one, I can’t help but admire his humility and honesty. Born and bred in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, Sohum embodies the spirit of struggle that every artist from a small town knows too well.

Actor-producer Sohum Shah is currently enjoying the acclaim following the cinema re-release of Tumbbad. Known for roles in films such as Gulaab Gang, Talvar, Simran, The Big Bull and more, it was Tumbbad, a 2018 folk horror release, that brought Sohum Shah to public attention. In a recent conversation, Sohum discussed the topic of outsiders versus insiders within the film industry, confessing that he has yet to master the art of networking in this field.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: In an exclusive conversation with TopMob, I, Sohum Shah, shared my thoughts on the ongoing discourse about outsiders versus insiders in the Indian film industry. Coming from the small city of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, I can attest to the significant struggles actors like me face. Similarly, aspiring actors from Jaipur put in a tremendous amount of effort to make it big in Bollywood.

Sohum stated that the person coming from Bombay will begin at the third lap since he communicates in English and has friends here. This ensures he’ll never experience emotional homesickness or loneliness.

The actor pointed out that Mumbai-born performers often possess a fundamental understanding of PR, having developed this awareness while growing up in the city. However, he noted, it takes about ten years for individuals like himself to fully grasp these concepts.

The Tumbbad actor admitted that he hasn’t been able to learn networking in his career.

To be honest, I haven’t mastered the art of networking yet, and you won’t find me mingling at social events, such as those lavish Bollywood parties.
