EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Kajol says she turned down Aamir Khan-Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster film: ‘I have done very well without them’

Kajol is widely recognized as one of India’s top-tier actresses. Right now, she’s preparing for the debut of her upcoming film, titled Maa, a mythological horror production financed by Ajay Devgn and Kumar Mangat Pathak. As she’s busy promoting this project, Kajol revealed that she declined several movies, some of which went on to become massive box office hits.

In a one-on-one conversation with TopMob, Kajol was inquired about the difficulty she experiences when refusing any project and if there are films she declined that turned out to be major successes. Responding to this, the actress from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai candidly admitted that it takes her no time at all, and she doesn’t give it a second thought before turning down anything she dislikes.

In a light-hearted manner, Kajol acknowledged that “3 Idiots” was an instance where she embodied her spirited character. She humorously stated, “You know, many times it’s like 3 Idiots (laughs).” The actress from DDLJ also shared that she had no regrets about the movies she didn’t do. “As they say, what is written for you will come to you…so, I believe I have achieved quite a bit without those films,” Kajol concluded.

Kareena Kapoor Khan replaced Kajol in 3 Idiots

3 Idiots is one of the iconic films in Indian cinema for those not familiar with it. Originally, Kajol declined the role that eventually went to Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film featured Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Boman Irani as its main characters. It was a groundbreaking achievement as it became the first Indian movie to earn more than 300 crores at the domestic box office in net sales.

Discussing Kajol, her upcoming film titled “Maa” is scheduled for release on the big screen on June 27, 2025. This movie is promoted as part of the Shaitaan Universe and may feature plot links to the Ajay Devgn-R Madhavan movie. Directed by Vishal Furia, “Maa” promises to showcase Kajol in a unique role we haven’t seen before.

Initially, the trailer gained favorable reviews. Now, anticipation is high for audience feedback. If the material resonates, it could be added to the list of recent moderately sized hits like Raid 2, Kesari Chapter 2, and Jaat.
