EXCLUSIVE: Vikram comments on discussions in Tamil cinema after Indian 2 failure; shares how he balances stardom with content

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the intricacies of the film industry, I must say that it is always enlightening to witness the raw and unfiltered insights from veterans like Chiyaan Vikram and Pa Ranjith. Their candidness about their dedication to their craft, balancing stardom with content, and the challenges they face in the industry, is truly inspiring.

In a recent interview with TopMob following the success of their movie, Thangalaan, Chiyaan Vikram, Pa Ranjith, and Parvathy Thiruvothu were questioned. Specifically, Ranjith was asked about the ongoing conversations in Tamil cinema post the setback experienced by Indian 2.

The director commented, “Regarding the topic, he stated, ‘Things are consistent across the board; they’re not different everywhere. If we put faith in a concept and it underperforms, we need to consider what went wrong and why we approached it that way. It’s universal, whether in the North or South.'”

Moving forward with our discussion, I find myself expressing my thoughts: We’re deeply committed to our work, to the extent that it seems we lack time for family and social life. Our projects consume us almost entirely, and during our recent discussions, it appears this was near the time of our film’s release. Instead, our focus has primarily been on strategies to elevate our movie’s reach.

Vikram went on to mention that they’ve solely focused on distributing and advertising their movie, which has left them with little time for family gatherings due to the laborious nature of the process. Consequently, they’d require around a month or two before engaging in discussions concerning other topics.

Discussing the harmony between his fame and content creation, Vikram stated, “In simple terms, when you possess a Prabhudeva…you require a dance film. Clearly, you’re watching that movie, and producing it to showcase his dancing abilities. Similarly, my film…I believe my fans anticipate a performance where I do something unique.”

The performer mentioned that he believes his supporters might feel let down if he failed to deliver something in line with their expectations. He also pointed out that journalists often questioned him about his choice of movie, given its commercial success and the fact that it deviated from his customary approach.

Vikram expressed his viewpoint that it’s not wise for him to limit himself to a single type of role, as only a small number of actors dare to venture into something unique. He attributes this boldness to the creativity of directors and heroes, and he feels confident that his fans appreciate such diversity too.
