As someone who grew up with the irreverent humor of “Family Guy,” the mere thought of a live-action adaptation sends shivers down my spine and makes me question the sanity of Hollywood. I remember staying up late on Sunday nights to catch the latest antics of the Griffin family, and the idea of Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, Stewie, and Brian in flesh and blood is just too surreal for my taste.
an AI production showcasing these stars. This AI creation mirrors the style of The Simpsons, as it boasts many familiar faces that move with the unsettling David Lynch-like aura only AI can produce. Like its predecessor, this live-action concept trailer is overflowing with well-known personalities, and it has sparked some intriguing casting possibilities.
When casting the Griffin family, Kevin James is the actor of choice to take on the role of patriarch Peter, while Elizabeth Banks transforms into his glamorous wife Lois. Meanwhile, children Meg, Chris and Stewie are portrayed by Mila Kunis – cutting a very different Meg to that of her animated counterpart – Jonah Hill, and Griffin Banks, respectively. And then we have Rob Schneider as a human-in-a-dog-suit version of Brian. But that is only the tip of the AI-generated iceberg.
Lucky There’s Not a Live-Action Family Guy
Although it’s amusing to imagine how some well-known personalities might transform into animated characters like those from Family Guy, let’s express gratitude that a live-action version of the show is unlikely. Setting aside any unsettling AI elements, visualizing Stewie without his distinctive rugby ball head, Brian as a man instead of a dog, or worse, CGI versions, is not an appealing thought for most fans.
Instead, enthusiasts of Seth MacFarlane’s humorously politically incorrect animated series can now find the Griffins on Hulu or Disney+ due to the merger between Fox and these streaming platforms. Similar to The Simpsons, this merger implies that the show is unlikely to be canceled in the near future. Season 22, which consisted of only 15 episodes instead of the regular 20, premiered in October 2023 and ran until April 2024. The upcoming Season 23 has been renewed along with it, extending the show into 2025. Additionally, there will be two holiday specials airing towards the end of this year as well.
At present, only Season 23 has been confirmed for release in the future, but given the show’s consistent good ratings, it seems unlikely that this will be its final season. If you’re not up-to-date with the Griffins, you can catch up on all seasons on Hulu within the U.S., and on Star on Disney+ in many other regions.
