Fans can’t believe new Game of Thrones RPG

As a long-time fan of George R.R. Martin’s intricate world of Game of Thrones, I was beyond thrilled when I heard about a new RPG in development based on the series. The potential for an immersive and captivating experience seemed endless with the wealth of lore and complex characters already established.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder aloud: Isn’t creating a Game of Thrones video game an intriguing challenge? George R.R. Martin’s Seven Kingdoms are brimming with ten thousand years of history, providing us with a wealth of untapped potential. With such a rich and detailed backdrop, we could craft an entirely new narrative while respectfully leaving Martin’s cherished canon largely untouched.

Regrettably, the acclaim and popularity of HBO’s Game of Thrones have given rise to numerous subpar spin-offs and imitations reminiscent of Defend the Castle. The most promising alternative, Telltale’s episodic adventure, unfortunately didn’t continue beyond its first season.

Game of Thrones: Legends gets torn apart online

We were eagerly anticipating the announcement of a new Game of Thrones role-playing game, envisioning ourselves leading our troops to victory with great excitement. However, rather than receiving an anticipated masterpiece like Fallout: New Vegas or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, we were left disappointed and puzzled by a seemingly familiar game that appears to be nothing more than a re-skinned version of Candy Crush.

Although the success of House of the Dragon has kept interest in the Thronesverse alive and revived its reputation following the disappointing final season of Game of Thrones, it seems that Game of Thrones: Legends will not be able to win back our trust in Westeros’ game production. It’s rare for high-quality role-playing games (RPGs) to come from mobile platforms.

On July 25, 2021, Game of Thrones: Legends officially launches, with some fans having pre-registered earlier. Regrettably, this game does not deliver the intricate RPG experience we anticipated. Instead, it bears a striking resemblance to Candy Crush. You may recall Zynga as the creators behind Star Wars: Hunters.

The legends game in the Thronesverse RPG series didn’t live up to our expectations. When the pre-registration trailer came out, many critics were quick to criticize it. One skeptic exclaimed, “I was looking forward to this being something like Shadow of Mordor, not another addictive but simple game like Candy Crush.”

I couldn’t believe it when another fan exclaimed, “I was so excited, but what is this?! Someone at Telltale seriously thought this would satisfy us? This isn’t even close to the depth of an RPG!” A third fan added, “Apparently, we’re supposed to be entertained by this while using the restroom. That seems to be the best this franchise can offer.”

Kit Harington returns for Game of Thrones: Legends

Surprisingly, Kit Harington returns as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones: Legends, an unexpected move. A sneak peek trailer for this spin-off series will be unveiled prior to the new episodes of House of the Dragon. In it, Harington appears watching another actor portraying his character in Legends. His adversary triumphs over him and quips, “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”

According to Variety’s report, both Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ser Criston Cole from House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series are featured in Legends, with Zynga developing additional content based on Season 2. The issue at hand is whether these characters will remain in the game for players to interact with.
