As a self-proclaimed cinephile who has spent countless hours huddled under blankets watching horror movies during Halloween nights, I can confidently say that Peacock’s upcoming lineup is nothing short of thrilling! Growing up, I remember the anticipation and excitement that came with the arrival of October, knowing that it was finally time to indulge in my favorite genre.
Beginning this fall, the “Fantastic Beasts” trilogy will make its way to the streaming platform, Peacock. Previously available on Max, these magical adventures will now be found on Peacock, joining other spooky season titles, starting from September 1st. Additionally, the extended cuts of the “Harry Potter” films are currently only accessible through Peacock.
As a movie enthusiast, I find myself immersed in a magical world where I tag along with the escapades of Newt Scamander, portrayed brilliantly by Eddie Redmayne. The narrative also delves into the ominous rise of the sinister dark wizard Grindelwald, initially brought to life by Johnny Depp and subsequently by Mads Mikkelsen.
The movie Fantastic Beasts encountered a blend of positive and negative responses, along with unfavorable critiques. It’s worth mentioning that during its release, two main cast members, Johnny Depp and Ezra Miller, were engulfed in significant public scandals. Unfortunately, the moviegoers also expressed disappointment due to underdeveloped character plots, inconsistencies in mythos continuity, and a perceived shortage of magical elements reminiscent of the Harry Potter films.
Initially, the movie “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” received an impressive 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Subsequently, “The Crimes of Grindelwald” and “The Secrets of Dumbledore” earned ratings of 54% and 83% respectively.
The Fantastic Beasts Series Remains Unfinished
As a movie enthusiast, I must share that the much-anticipated continuation of the “temporarily halted” franchise remains unannounced. Previously, director David Yates hinted that the films were merely put on hold, using the term “parked.” This intriguing statement keeps the possibility of a future return to this beloved series alive and well.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve noticed a change in Warner Bros.’ cinematic landscape. Instead of continuing their feature film journey with Harry Potter, they’re now diving deep into TV adaptations, particularly a new series for their streaming platform, Max. The anticipated Harry Potter television reboot is slated to debut on Max in 2026, as announced by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. Fingers are crossed for more series to follow suit, with the much-anticipated prequel being a glimpse into the student years of the Marauders – James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew – at Hogwarts.
“Face Your Fears” – Peacock’s 2024 Halloween Lineup
Kicking off the chilling season, Peacock introduces the Fantastic Beasts series as part of an exceptional Halloween programming schedule. TVGuide provides a comprehensive list of movies and shows set to arrive on Peacock before Halloween night.
Peacock has revealed their lineup of spooky movies coming to the service next month, featuring timeless hits such as the Saw series, a variety of Halloween films, and undeniably, Leprechaun 4: Misplaced in Space.
Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, will offer a collection of classic horror films from Universal, including “Frankenstein,” “The Mummy,” “The Invisible Man,” and “The Thing.” Additionally, it will feature popular horror franchises like the “Purge” series, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “Night of the Living Dead.”
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that two original series from the streaming platform are making their grand entrance – “Teacup” and “Hysteria!”. The first, “Teacup”, is a chilling horror-thriller that takes its roots from Robert McCammon’s New York Times bestselling novel, “Stinger”. Masterminded by Ian McCulloch and produced under the watchful eye of James Wan, this suspenseful tale unfolds in rural Georgia, where a group of neighbors find themselves unexpectedly confined together. With a mysterious danger lurking, they must band together to ensure their survival.
The movie titled “Hysteria!” revolves around a high school heavy metal band that exploits a classmate’s disappearance and the ’80s fear of Satanism, known as the “Satanic Panic,” by reinventing their image and catering to the town’s fascination with the supernatural. Unfortunately, their actions lead them to become the prime suspects when there’s a surge in murders, kidnappings, and strange events within the community.
Beginning on Thursday, October 10th, the initial pair of episodes from Teacup will be released, followed by two fresh installments each week up until Halloween. Meanwhile, the debut of the entire series of Hysteria! is set for October 18th.
