Farscape’s Ben Browder on What He’d Want to See If the Show Came Back

As a dedicated fan who has followed John Crichton and his motley Moya crew for over two decades, I couldn’t be more thrilled at the prospect of their return! The thought of revisiting these characters after 25 years is like finding an old treasure map that still leads to buried gold.

Would you like to see the return of John Crichton and the rest of the Moya crew? Of course you would! But after 25 years, could that even happen?

In an interview with SYFY WIRE this year, during the 25th anniversary celebration of Farscape (now available on Peacock along with Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars), series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon made it clear that any future revival of the beloved series would be a continuation, not a reboot.

As a fan, I can tell you, it’s been a long wait, but looking back, having a 25-year gap between productions might not be so bad after all. It wasn’t something we intentionally planned, but now that I think about it, the extended timeframe could offer unique advantages. For one, the characters have had ample time to grow and evolve, and various events could have transpired in their world during this span.

Actor Ben Browder expressed similar thoughts, using Star Trek: Picard as an illustration of how a well-established IP can be revived. He also voiced his hope for a studio that would dare to revisit the Farscape series again. “It’s about finding the right setting that knows its goal and is ready to bet on something I’d like to say, even 25 years after it first aired, still has no equal.”

During an interview with GamesRadar, Browder delved into the subject once more. He not only elaborated on Crichton’s ending, but also touched upon the fates of Aeryn Sun (portrayed by Claudia Black), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), and Rygel XVI (a Henson Company creation controlled by John Eccleston and previously voiced by Jonathan Hardy).

He expressed his desire, saying, “I’d be thrilled to witness more developments,” he said. “Life doesn’t conclude until our final moment… I’m curious about where they stand today and how their world has evolved. Over the past 25 years, our world has dramatically changed, and none of us remain unaltered from who we were then. I believe these stories could be captivating. Yes, I would relish the chance to portray John Crichton once more and see Crichton and Aeryn’s offspring. For me, Farscape was an exceptional opportunity as an actor, and another involvement would be a significant event.”
