Father Jumps Off Disney Cruise to Save 5-Year-Old Daughter After She Falls Overboard

Initially, an enchanting Disney cruise turned into a harrowing experience on its final night. On June 29th, upon the Disney Dream‘s return from a four-night trip to the Bahamas, a young girl of five years old accidentally slipped over the railing on the fourth deck while her father was arranging a photo with her. Instantly, he leaped over the side to save her and kept afloat until Disney rescue boats could locate them.

Witnesses described a startling, freezing-cold splash, followed by the father hastily jumping into the sea after the woman. This incident activated the “Man Overboard” alarm, causing the Disney Cruise ship to rapidly change direction and send out its rescue boat.

The father successfully kept his daughter buoyant by swimming for approximately 10 to 20 minutes, as reported by various onlookers. Crew members promptly tossed life rings into the water and managed to retrieve both the father and daughter swiftly. Spectators watched with a mix of concern and anticipation—some even tearful, while others were audibly cheering as the vibrant yellow rescue boat drew near.

One onlooker recalled, “That man is a hero. He jumped in to save his child.”

Disney Cruise Line released a statement praising their team.

We praise our team for their outstanding abilities and quick responses, which led to a swift rescue of our passengers back to the ship in no time. This event underscores the efficiency of our safety measures.

Some people were surprised by the child falling from the ship’s glass safety barriers on the upper deck walkway, considering its safety features. Although the exact reason for the incident is yet to be determined, thankfully no injuries have been reported so far. However, some individuals are already raising questions about why she was near the railing initially.

As stated by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, contrary to certain claims, the girl was not perched on the railing of the ship.

On an early Monday morning, the Disney ship named “Dream” made its way back to Port Everglades. Reports suggest that the pair who were rescued appeared a bit rattled but fortunately, they were not injured.

Instead of turning a beautiful holiday into a heart-stopping catastrophe, the father and daughter found themselves safely returned and overjoyed to be back on solid ground.
