As a dedicated follower of Bollywood and Lollywood, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming romantic comedy, Abir Gulaal, starring the dashing Fawad Khan and the radiant Vaani Kapoor! Having grown up with both Indian and Pakistani cinema, witnessing this cross-border collaboration is a testament to the power of art in bridging divides.
Starting on September 29, 2024, Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan and Bollywood charm Vaani Kapoor have begun shooting their romantic comedy titled Abir Gulaal in various London areas, as well as surrounding locations. Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, who is famous for Chalti Rahe Zindagi, the film is being produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures.
The production team includes Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy. Filming is set to take place in the U.K. throughout October and November.
Abir Gulaal’s team expressed that “We believe Fawad’s international fan base will greatly appreciate this film, given his heartwarming portrayal in this role. The chemistry between Fawad and Vaani is expected to create a spark on the screen with their compelling performances and undeniable allure.
In her insightful remarks, Director Aarti S Bagdi shares that the movie delves into the tale of two people who inadvertently aid one another’s healing process. Along this journey, a beautiful and unforeseen romance unfolds.
The movie is set to be shot in the UK during October and November, which will add a stunning aesthetic quality to this heartfelt tale. An impressive ensemble of actors from India and the UK have been gathered to bolster this challenging multinational production.
A well-known Bollywood tune maker has already created six unique tunes that will be sung by some of the best vocalists in Bollywood. The upcoming romantic comedy, filled with vibrant London scenery, is being produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures.
Fawad boasts a significant fanbase in India, with his roles in hit Bollywood movies such as Khoobsurat and Kapoor & Sons. He’s also made appearances in series like Ms. Marvel and The Legend of Maula Jatt, which holds the record for the highest grossing film in Pakistan to date.
Right now, the debut of Maula Jatt in India has been halted due to opposition from a political group. Meanwhile, Khan’s acclaimed series Barzakh, which made its premiere at Series Mania in 2023, continues to thrive.
Starting from 2016, there has been an informal restriction preventing Pakistani artists from participating in Indian movies due to political disputes between the two countries. Yet, in 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed a plea seeking to enforce a formal ban on Pakistani artists in India.
