FBI: CIA Spinoff Coming Soon!

It looks like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) could be getting another spinoff series titled “FBI: CIA“. This new show will blend the realms of the FBI with that of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). As part of Dick Wolf’s expansive universe of FBI-related shows, which includes “FBI”, “FBI: Most Wanted”, and “FBI: International”, casting is currently underway for two main characters – an FBI agent and a CIA agent.

The show is being planned as a spinoff, which means that the characters might make an appearance in an upcoming FBI episode in spring 2025. If CBS decides to greenlight it, the new series, tentatively titled “FBI: CIA,” could premiere during the 2025-2026 season. However, nothing has been officially approved yet, and CBS may be holding off on making a decision until they determine the cast, gauge audience reactions, and evaluate ratings for the episode featuring FBI, CIA agents, and an additional character.

What We Know so Far About FBI: CIA

The FBI: CIA series is set to be written and executive produced by Eric Wolf, along with David Hudgins (the showrunner for FBI: Most Wanted), Nicole Perlman (known for Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel), and David Chasteen (a former CIA officer and producer of El Candidato). The official synopsis of FBI: CIA has been revealed, detailing that it will delve into the world of the CIA, exploring its agents’ lives, their missions, and the challenges they face.

Two agents, one diligent and disciplined from the FBI and another resourceful and streetwise from the CIA, form an undercover team. This secret group has been established to handle and prevent acts of domestic terrorism within and surrounding New York City.

It’s intriguing to note that CBS schedules their ‘FBI’ programming on Tuesdays, similar to NBC’s ‘Chicago’ block featuring shows like ‘Chicago Med’, ‘Chicago Fire’, and ‘Chicago P.D.’. On ‘FBI Tuesdays’, you’ll find ‘FBI’ at 8 pm ET / PT, followed by ‘FBI: International’ at 9 pm ET / PT, and ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ at 10 pm ET / PT. After this three-hour stretch of FBI action, local news (where available) takes over. Therefore, the question arises, when can we expect to see FBI: CIA?

The popular television series known as the FBI, often referred to as the “mothership show,” was granted three additional seasons way back in April 2024. Simultaneously, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted each received a renewal for one season, with both currently airing. It is possible that either or both shows may conclude in May? The beloved character Jess LaCroix, portrayed by Julian McMahon, met his demise in a Season 3 episode, as McMahon decided to part ways with the show. Otherwise, the shows have been maintaining their momentum on “FBI Tuesday night.

There’s a chance that if both spin-offs persist, “FBI: CIA” might air on a different night altogether, or CBS could decide to shift either “FBI: Most Wanted” or “FBI: International” to a different evening.

The principal series, devised by Wolf and Craig Turk, initially aired in 2018, featuring Zeeko Zaki, Missy Peregrym, Jeremy Sisto, Alana De La Garza, Katherine Renee Turner, and John Boyd. Last summer, it was disclosed that Kane would depart the series for fresh creative projects, similar to McMahon’s departure. Furthermore, it was made known that showrunner Rick Eid would continue as executive producer but relinquish his role as showrunner, with Mike Weiss taking over as showrunner and chief writer.

Initially, FBI: Most Wanted marked the start of spinoff series, premiering in 2020. Starring Dylan McDermott, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Edwin Hodge, Roxy Sternberg, and Shantal VanSanten, it focuses on the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force chasing down the most dangerous criminals. Subsequently, in the following year, FBI: International emerged as another spinoff show. This series stars Jesse Lee Soffer, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Eva-Jane Willis, and Christina Wolfe. The storyline revolves around the International Fly Team preventing threats to American interests throughout Europe.

All three FBI shows return Jan. 28 starting at 8 pm ET / PT.
