A week following the rearrangement at the Fly Team that led to Jay Hayden’s departure from FBI: International, the upcoming episode on February 11 in the 2025 TV schedule will bring Smitty into focus. This time around, her case won’t just be about a potential murder; it will also involve complex, deeply personal issues set against the backdrop of her former university campus. Actress Eva-Jane Willis recently shared insights with TopMob regarding this week’s episode and which member of the Fly Team will offer Smitty the most assistance during these challenging times.
On February 11 at 9 p.m. ET, catch the upcoming episode of “FBI: International” titled “Veritas Fidelis”. You can watch it live or stream it later with a Paramount+ subscription. This case marks Smitty’s debut post her decision to step down from the Fly Team for Tyler Booth’s sake. The story promises to tug at your heartstrings as it unfolds. In a sneak peek, actress Eva-Jane Willis hinted that her character’s past will intertwine significantly with the week’s case, revealing more about how her personal history influences this particular storyline.
Initially, it’s revealed that a student from an Ivy League American university (or its British counterpart) has tragically passed away on campus. Since Smitty resides nearby at the moment, she decides to visit the scene… The authorities consider this an accidental death, but Smitty suspects otherwise, which is why she summons the Fly Team for further investigation. It’s important to note that Smitty’s history with the university is fraught, as she was expelled due to misconduct. As a result, Smitty faces a challenging situation, balancing her personal feelings of guilt and regret over her past actions at the school against her work on the case. This can sometimes complicate matters when things become deeply personal.
In this scenario, Smitty won’t be revisiting her old educational institution because she was dismissed for misconduct. A closer look at the video reveals that she explains to Raines that she forfeited her chance at the university due to another person’s gin bottle being discovered in her dorm room. It’s evident from this that there are many underlying issues making her case more complex.
Because FBI: International takes place abroad instead of in New York City, the university in question isn’t Hudson University – the one that has created issues within the worlds of Law & Order and FBI for many years. Instead, Smitty attended a different, fictional school. Interestingly, Willis mentioned that the show was able to film on the stunning campus of Cambridge, which is a real-life institution.
It’s quite possible that Smitty doesn’t hold only fond memories of the place! As for Eva-Jane Willis and her character in “Veritas Fidelis,” when I inquired about how much she’d depend on her teammates, she revealed:
In Episode 11, it becomes evident that she leans on Raines more than any other team member. This bond dates back to the previous season, where she had to return home to discuss a case with her mother. During this time, it was Raines who stood by her side. He was there when she received the heart-wrenching revelation that the man she believed to be her father, wasn’t. In fact, he was present when she cried over the loss of that relationship. Once again, in Episode 11, it’s Raines who offers his support.
Last year, I found solace leaning on Raines during the episode where Smitty’s parents were introduced, and I can confidently say that I’ll be relying on her again when she returns to the U.K. in 2025. From the sneak peek clip we’ve seen, she’s already given us a glimpse of Smitty’s past, but Eva-Jane Willis hinted that things are going to get even more intense for Smitty than what was shown in that scene. The actress further mentioned:
When situations become challenging, it seems she opens up only with Raines. Despite having strong connections with everyone else on the team, he’s the one who manages to break down her defenses when he’s around. For the most part, she maintains a protective barrier, but with him, that wall disappears because I believe she feels safe and comfortable enough to be vulnerable with him.
It’s yet unclear how challenging the situation may become for Smitty in the upcoming episode of FBI: International. However, viewers should not expect Raines to be someone Smitty feels at ease with. Carter Redwood’s character has historically shown kindness towards his fellow teammates and was particularly upset about what transpired with Vo. Here’s hoping that the unique connection between Smitty and him will provide her with the support she needs when the show airs on February 11, in its usual 9 p.m. ET time slot on CBS.
On Tuesday evenings, you’ll spot “FBI: International” smack in the middle of CBS’s prime time slot. This block kicks off with “FBI” following Jubal’s victory at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and then continues with “FBI: Most Wanted” after a group of particularly sinister villains at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. If you missed any or all of them, the most recent episodes from the 2024-2025 TV season can be streamed on Paramount+.
