As a devoted viewer and admirer of the FBI franchise, I must say that the journey of John Boyd‘s character, Scola, has been nothing short of captivating. The anticipation for his 100th episode is palpable, much like the tension in one of those nail-biting FBI investigations.
2024 saw FBI kick off its schedule with a poignant beginning, as the Season 7 premiere marked the last appearance for longtime cast member Katherine Renee Kane (played by Katherine Renee Kane). The story arc since then has seen Scola searching for a new partner, an unexpected situation that actor John Boyd confessed his character wasn’t fully prepared to handle.
The FBI series reached its 100-episode milestone with the gripping Season 5 finale in 2023, causing the creator to marvel at the show’s remarkable achievement. However, it’s worth noting that John Boyd as Scola didn’t join the cast until Season 2, meaning he didn’t hit the 100-episode mark simultaneously with the original cast members. Nevertheless, with 94 episodes of FBI on his resume, four appearances in FBI: Most Wanted, and one episode in FBI: International (according to IMDb), Boyd is just one more episode away from reaching a total of 100 across the entire FBI franchise, which he’ll achieve with the November 12 episode.
In my recent chat with Boyd and showrunner Mike Weiss for the season 7 premiere, I delved into the influence of spy thrillers on the storyline. As we approached his significant milestone in the FBI franchise, I was curious to hear about his journey so far. To my delight, he graciously opened up:
Becoming a father and starring in this role has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. It’s an indescribable feeling, truly amazing for me! I’ve never been happier. It’s such an honor to be part of this journey. Plus, it’s still fascinating learning more about both fatherhood and the show we’re working on. We’re thrilled about Mike [Weiss] and the direction the series is taking.
John Boyd acknowledged that Mike Weiss, who took over as showrunner for FBI in Season 7 on CBS after Rick Eid from Law & Order and Chicago P.D. left, was duly recognized by him. Additionally, it was noted that Weiss wrote the premiere episode which bid farewell to Tiff and established Scola’s storyline involving the need for a new partner, as mentioned by the actor.
I’m deeply fond of Scola and cherish our supporters. Crafting TV shows for audiences who appreciate these narratives, track their progression, and feel connected to the characters is an exceptionally meaningful experience, one that I value greatly and never overlook.
If Scola continues to avoid further injuries in the remainder of Season 7, John Boyd will reach the significant mark of 100 episodes on FBI, excluding his appearances on International and Most Wanted. His most recent role on Most Wanted was as Nina’s partner and father to baby Dougie, rather than portraying an agent. (You can catch this episode with a Paramount+ subscription.)
Currently, we’re not far from witnessing Scola achieve his 100th episode in the FBI series. This significant milestone will be celebrated in an upcoming episode, slated for release on Tuesday, November 12. This particular installment also presents Lisette Olivera as a new series regular, portraying BAU Profiler Sydney Ortiz. However, it’s important to note that she won’t be a permanent cast member. Here’s the sneak peek:
On Tuesdays, the latest episodes of FBI can be watched on CBS at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, except for November 5 when CBS will broadcast the U.S. election results instead. Following the original show, you’ll find FBI: International at 9 p.m. ET and FBI: Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. And if you want to catch up on past episodes, they are all available for streaming on Paramount+.
