Attention! If you haven’t watched the seventeenth episode of FBI Season 7 on CBS yet, titled “Lineage,” beware of potential spoilers. You can catch it soon if you have a Paramount+ subscription for streaming.
Following the previous episode of FBI, which effectively introduced Tiff’s replacement, the upcoming episode in the 2025 TV schedule has now focused on Isobel and a significant choice she had to make. The case-of-the-week and its timing in “Lineage” provided the team’s Senior Assistant Chief with compelling reasons to resign, and the introduction of Tom Cavanagh, known from The Flash, as Isobel’s new husband seems to suggest that Alana De La Garza might be preparing to depart. However, I don’t believe we need to worry about her leaving anytime soon.
In “Lineage”, it was disclosed that Isobel had worked at the FBI for twenty years, making her eligible for full retirement benefits. Her spouse, Philip, eagerly endorsed the notion when she proposed it. Notably, the murder case of the week turned out to be connected to a long-sought criminals on the Most Wanted list by Isobel. The team successfully resolved the case, but unfortunately, Jack Grippo passed away before he could be brought to justice.
Although Jubal appeared skeptical when Isobel suggested she had hit her 20 with the Grippo case, it turned out that Billie, Grippo’s daughter, had deceived them all and gained a powerful position in a criminal organization. Consequently, the investigation into the Grippo crime family wasn’t so much about closing the book as it was wrapping up one chapter and moving on to the next. Given these circumstances, it would be understandable for Isobel to contemplate leaving her job behind.
It turns out Isobel shared with her spouse at home about the death of her beloved white whale. She mentioned that another whale had taken its place, a new one to pursue. Despite their joint dreams of retiring together, Philip remained calm and said, “It’s up to you when your involvement in the work ends.” Isobel, however, made it clear that she still felt there was more for her to do; she wasn’t ready to stop yet.

It appears that Alana De La Garza will continue as Isobel following the SAC’s significant decision, and FBI has made Tom Cavanagh’s character Philip more intriguing, making us eager for more appearances. Relationships in the FBI universe often encounter troubles (however, this will eventually be reduced to a single show). For instance, OA’s romance with Gemma seemed smooth-sailing during Season 7, until their romantic getaway was unexpectedly disrupted, leading to Gemma being shot! Yet, Philip seems to be an excellent husband to Isobel, and it would be nice to occasionally catch up on their domestic life.
At present, we can be certain that Isobel won’t be departing from her role as SAC, which is a cause for celebration as we anticipate another two seasons of FBI. Keep your TV tuned to CBS every Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time for fresh episodes of Season 7. Before the conclusion of FBI: International’s final season at 9 p.m. ET and the remainder of FBI: Most Wanted’s final season at 10 p.m. ET, don’t forget to catch up on CBS!
