As a long-time admirer of Dame Maggie Smith‘s extraordinary talent and captivating performances, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of her passing. Her ability to breathe life into every character she portrayed was truly remarkable, and her wit and authority were unparalleled.
A talent like the venerated Dame Maggie Smith is rare to come across, and it’s rarer to be able to see such craft carried out over the span of decades. An award-winning powerhouse of talent, she was known to many as an endless fountain of wit and authority through everything from the Harry Potter movies to Downton Abbey. It is with that sterling legacy in mind that we fondly bid farewell to Ms. Smith, as she has been reported dead at the age of 89.
This morning, the BBC learned some distressing news, which Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin chose to share through a statement they provided:
With profound sorrow, we must share the heartbreaking news of Dame Maggie Smith’s passing. She peacefully departed from a hospital early this morning, specifically on September 27th. A deeply private individual, she was surrounded by friends and family in her final moments. Her loving family – two sons and five grandchildren – are overwhelmed by the loss of their remarkable matriarch.
TopMob wishes to express our heartfelt sympathies to the loved ones of Dame Maggie Smith, during this difficult period of mourning and reflection.
More to come…
