'Final Destination: Bloodlines' Sets 2025 Release Date in Studio Shake-up

As a long-time horror enthusiast who’s been through more than a few “Final Destination” sequels and their subsequent twists and turns, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the upcoming “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” It’s been a while since we’ve had a new installment, and the return of Tony Todd as William Bludworth is always a welcome sight.

Fans of horror movies have been eagerly waiting over a decade to see another “Final Destination” film on the big screen, but their patience will soon be rewarded as “Final Destination: Bloodlines” has officially set its release date for 2025. This will mark the sixth installment in the popular series that kicked off in 2000 with the original movie, which was praised for its innovative concept, suspense, and gruesome kill scenes.

In a shift of plans, “Final Destination: Bloodlines” will premiere on the big screen on May 16, 2025. This date was originally reserved for the sci-fi film “Flowervale Street,” produced by J.J. Abrams, but has been pushed back to 2026 due to delays. Warner Bros., however, believes that the month of May has historically been more successful for genre franchises, leading them to reschedule and make room for “Final Destination 6” to take its place.

At present, we don’t have much information about the upcoming movie titled “Bloodlines“. It seems that this film will concentrate on individuals who are accustomed to dealing with death – first responders. In an interesting twist, these characters find themselves trying to escape the Grim Reaper instead of attending to his duties. The cast includes Brec Bassinger, Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, and the late Tony Todd in one of his last screen appearances following his recent passing. Remarkably, Tony Todd reprises his role as William Bludworth for what appears to be the final time. This character was initially introduced in 2000, appeared in “Final Destination 2” (2003), and again in “Final Destination 5” (2011).

‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Faces Stiff Box Office Competition

It seems like changing Flowervale Street to Final Destination: Bloodlines could be a shrewd choice, given the intense competition it may encounter at the box office next year. Since Warner Bros. Pictures’ film is scheduled for May 16, it will initially clash with the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Thunderbolts, which releases two weeks earlier. In its second week, it will go head-to-head against Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie.

Warner Bros. has strategically scheduled the release of Final Destination 6 in May, aiming for optimal box office returns during its debut weekend. By this time, the impact of Thunderbolts* should have diminished significantly, leaving the horror series as the main attraction. However, we predict a substantial drop in earnings in the film’s second week due to the highly-awaited releases of Mission: Impossible and Lilo & Stitch. Despite this expected dip, releasing the movie now is its best chance at success without causing undue delays. It will be intriguing to observe the film’s performance and see what lies ahead for the franchise after this latest installment.

Initially intended for a streaming debut on Max, it’s heartening to know that “Final Destination: Bloodlines” will instead be having a theatrical release. This is good news considering Warner Bros.’ recent tendencies (like canceling “Coyote vs. Acme” or shifting “Salem’s Lot” to streaming). Given these actions, horror enthusiasts can be grateful that they’ll have the opportunity to experience all the gruesome scenes in high definition on the big screen instead.
