A peek at Sally Wainwright’s upcoming production titled “Riot Women” has been revealed by both the BBC and streaming platform BritBox.
The BAFTA-winning scriptwriter behind “Happy Valley,” “Last Tango in Halifax,” and “Gentleman Jack” is now working on a new six-part series starring Joanna Scanlan (“After Love,” “The Thick of It”), Rosalie Craig (“Moonflower Murders,” “Serpent Queen”), Tamsin Greig (“Sexy Beast,” “The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin”), Lorraine Ashbourne (“Sherwood,” “Alma’s Not Normal”), and Amelia Bullmore (“The Buccaneers,” “Vienna Blood”).
As a gamer, I’ve just stumbled upon some fresh pics of us, a newly formed band, rocking out in a punk style for a local talent show. We’re not professionally trained musicians, but we’ve got spirit and a message to share. Taj Atwal from “Line of Duty”, Chandeep Uppal from “Holby City”, and Macy Jacob-Seelochan from “Shadow and Bone” are the powerhouse backing vocalists that help us amplify our voice. Together, we’re creating our first original song, and it’s shaping up to be a wild ride!
Wainwright expressed a fresh wave of enthusiasm for the upcoming show while working on the final edits, and he’s eager to unveil it to all of us.
The show stands as a tribute to the strength of friendship, music, and the determination of women who refuse to be muted by age or societal norms. A summary reveals that it’s not just the music that keeps them together; instead, a powerful, long-hidden secret starts to emerge – one which unpredictably links Kitty and Beth, the band’s surprising creative leaders, in a complex triangle, putting their bond at risk and potentially shattering everything.
The television series titled “Riot Women” will showcase unique compositions penned by the band ARXX. Wainwright, who serves as the creator, writer, and primary director of the series, has taken charge in its production. Jessica Taylor, known for her work on “Happy Valley” and “Fool Me Once”, is the producer. Roanna Benn, recognized from “One Day” and “Doctor Foster”, acts as the executive producer for Drama Republic, while Tanya Qureshi represents the BBC, and Robert Schildhouse and Jess O’Riordan represent BritBox. The series is a production of Drama Republic, which is part of Mediawan Company.
The series titled “Riot Women” is set to air on both BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the United Kingdom later this year. In the United States and Canada, you’ll be able to stream it through BritBox. Mediawan Rights will handle international distribution, with Entourage Ventures participating in this process.
