As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say I’ve seen it all – from the glorious triumphs of Mario Kart to the dismal failures that make you question humanity’s collective decision-making skills.
When will the trend of kart racing clones cease? While Power Drift, introduced in 1988, was the first karting game, it was Super Mario Kart, launched in 1992, that truly made the genre popular and has remained dominant since. Despite Mario Kart’s consistent victories, numerous other games have attempted to enter the market.
Over time, a variety of go-kart games have emerged, with some truly exceptional ones like Double Dash that we still fondly remember, while others like 007 Racing were not so successful. However, there have also been some unusual and entertaining entries to the genre, such as Crash Team Racing, M&M’s Kart Racing, and even a fan-made version based on Bloodborne.

Eager to explore new territories beyond the conventional point-and-click survival horror genre that it’s recognized for, Five Nights at Freddy’s is revving up for a high-speed adventure. ScottGames unveiled Five Laps at Freddy’s on June 19, with Clickteam LLC hinting at the release of a trailer on August 3.
In a common occurrence, trailers have been leaked and fully uploaded online. The repeated removal of these videos hints at their authenticity, although this may not always be beneficial. It’s clear that the response from fans towards Five Nights at Freddy’s has not been overly enthusiastic.
To the rhythm of Stranger Things-inspired synth music, we watch our familiar characters speeding about in go-karts. Just like in Mario Kart, there are various weapons and boosters at your disposal to leave your competitors behind. The tracks follow a regular pattern, yet some incorporate elements of horror from the series, such as varying weather conditions.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement over Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Roster Unleashed! The lineup looks phenomenal, featuring beloved characters like Chica and The Puppet. Honestly, if someone hadn’t mentioned this was an official game, it could easily pass as a creation born from the enthusiasm of dedicated fans.
One angry FNaF enthusiast expressed, “I truly hope this costs only $3 as it appears to be an unflattering imitation; Garfield Kart even looks more appealing“. Similarly, several Reddit users concurred, with one stating, “This game seems incredibly low-quality compared to recent releases“, and another commenting, “Wow, this game looks like it was hastily thrown together, embodying all the worst qualities of shovelware“.
Despite the belief that the peak of the Freddyverse in video games has passed, ScottGames continues to show no signs of letting up. The upcoming 10th anniversary of the first game brings excitement with a full roadmap, teasing a Steel Wool Announcement, collaborative projects, and much more.
A game based on Five Nights at Freddy’s that involves kart racing might not meet your expectations, given rumors it was hastily developed to meet its August demo deadline. It probably won’t pose a threat to Mario Kart. However, considering the live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has taught us to anticipate the unanticipated, there’s a chance we could be delightfully surprised.
