Five Reasons to play Mr Lone Hero – Unit102 Games’ Wild West shooter, available for iOS and Android

  • Mr Lone Hero is a Wild West themed shooter recently released for iOS and Android
  • Enjoy endless replayability thanks to a simple gameplay mechanic with a high ceiling
  • Experience over 20 locations and over 50 bounty missions

As a gamer, I’ve noticed one consistent theme across various media: cowboys are nothing short of awesome! While Red Dead Redemption certainly gave us an unforgettable gaming experience, it’s important to remember that Rockstar Games didn’t invent the cowboy character. And with our busy adult lives, finding time to traverse the vast Wild West isn’t always possible. But fear not, if you yearn for a Stetson-wearing adventure, Mr Lone Hero could be your ticket to cowboy nirvana!

Invokes the Wild West feeling very well

Something that we loved during our sessions was the general feeling of it all. Mr Lone Hero captures the wild western look incredibly well with the menu’s style, invoking the sense that you are looking at a wanted poster or an old bulletin board. The play button being the back of a revolver with the cylinder rotating with a satisfying click when you tap it is endlessly cool.

Absolutely deserves recognition is the music, so captivating that an entire article could be dedicated to it. It masterfully combines the traditional tunes of the old west with contemporary dance beats, creating a unique blend that’s hard to resist, whether you’re a first-timer or a regular player. The gameplay, though, is another story altogether.

Simple Gameplay with a high ceiling

When you jump into your first level, you will notice fairly quickly that the combat system isn’t the most in-depth. Our hero is waving their gun up and down, and you need to tap the screen to shoot. But you would be wildly mistaken for thinking this is going to be a simple time.

As a devoted player, I must admit it’s quite deceptive if you’re not focusing – at the wrong moment, your adversary strikes and wipes me out. At advanced stages, my opponent will also fortify themselves with armor, reducing my attack zone, or there are innocents moving about that I can’t target. Unit102 Games has truly elevated this basic concept by introducing an impressive level of skill.

Gameplay will stay fresh thanks to new threats and procedural generation

The further you advance through the levels, the more tricky mechanics you will start to encounter. As mentioned above, you will quickly encounter feckless hostages wandering in front of your bullets and shields, some of which move. These are only some of the tricky features thrown at you, sometimes literally.

Adversaries will hurl flaming makeshift bombs (Molotov cocktails), which require precise shooting to eliminate mid-air, and dogs will unexpectedly charge at you, making the gameplay unpredictable. Moreover, each level is randomly structured, ensuring that no two playthroughs are identical. This unique feature keeps the gameplay fresh and prevents your skills from growing stale over time.

A host of locations to experience

There are two modes to play Mr Lone Hero: Story and Bounties. While Bounties are more for amassing gold and giving yourself a tough challenge, the story takes you through a host of western-style areas. You will start in a Saloon before venturing into a Bank and other places you will find Cowboys kicking back.

Each locale boasts its unique ambiance reminiscent of a Western movie set, yet they each play distinct tunes to enhance the narrative flow. With 20 levels and their challenging counterparts, you’ll have ample opportunity to immerse yourself in every location.

Rapid gameplay makes this perfect to slot in whenever you have a minute

Mr Lone Hero is the perfect game for mobile for one key reason: its brevity. Each level is over in around one or two minutes, making this a brilliant option for someone with only a short amount of time to get some gaming in. While you might not be able to fit in an epic RPG around childcare or your job, you can certainly take down a few outlaws whenever the mood strikes.
