As a long-time dessert enthusiast who’s been known to indulge in the occasional flan, let me tell you, Flantastic Cafe Run has stolen my heart! With its adorable mascot, Flancisco, and the story of our plain-looking hero yearning for some excitement, I was hooked from the get-go.
Occasionally, I find myself savoring a delightful Flan. Spotting Flanastic Cafe Run, featuring the adorable mascot Flancisco, piqued my interest and made me eager to give the game a try! It’s quite straightforward – it follows the two-lane runner genre, with the objective of gathering plenty of small fruit ingredients along the way.
At IndieDevDay, I tried out Flanastic Cafe Run and learned that the game’s narrative revolves around a discontented flan who feels plain due to lacking fun fruits, sprinkles, or vibrant colors. Because flans naturally lack these features, poor Flancisco was particularly unhappy. In the story, after being purchased, Flancisco was so wobbly that he accidentally tumbled onto the conveyor belt.
In the game, as a player, you should slide horizontally between the two belts to prevent your custard from leaving the screen. There’s a variety of other desserts moving along one of the belts. You can leap over smaller or medium-sized treats, but taller items such as sundaes and pancakes should be avoided entirely.
Instead of skipping over various items, focus on gathering essential ingredients such as mint leaves, blueberries, sprinkles, milk, and others. Gathering these items, regardless of how long your shopping trip takes, ensures that you have them ready when it’s time to bake fresh skins and decorations for your dessert. The process of unlocking new options based on the items collected is engaging and provides goals to strive for.
At Flantastic Cafe Run, there’s a fresh set of tasks waiting for you, offering additional objectives should you be up for them. During the demo I tried, completing all three wasn’t achievable, leaving me unsure if extra ingredients are awarded as bonuses. However, it’s still enjoyable to test your skills!
