π€π₯π» **”Hackathon Hype: Flare Unleashes AI on Blockchain!”** π₯π»π€
And so, another hackathon came to a close, leaving behind a trail of exhausted participants and a lingering sense of “I’ll never get this done” π€―. The Flare x Google Cloud Hackathon, held from March 7-9, was a grand experiment in exploring the intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence. Because, you know, the world wasn’t already complicated enough π€¦ββοΈ.
Students and researchers from UC Berkeley, the University of Waterloo, and ETH Zurich gathered to create projects that would make our grandparents proud π. They worked on AI-powered applications, from financial applications to consensus learning solutions, all while maintaining security and trust. Because, you know, that’s not a tall order π€£.
Confidential Space, a secure computing environment, was the star of the show π. It prevents outside interference while generating cryptographic attestations, which confirm that an AI computation was executed correctly. And, of course, these attestations can be verified on the Flare blockchain, because transparency is key π.
This setup allows AI models to process data without exposing it to third parties, while ensuring the results remain trustworthy. It’s like a game of hide-and-seek, but with code and cryptography π.
The hackathon attracted over 460 participants, who competed across four tracks. Projects ranged from the mundane to the fascinating, all using Confidential Space instances running on AMD’s Secure Encrypted Virtualization platform. Because, you know, security is no joke π¬.
2DeFi: AI-powered DeFi onboarding
One of the top projects was 2DeFi, created by two University of Waterloo students. It won first place in the AI x DeFi track and second place in the RAG Knowledge track. Because, of course, it did π. The project helps traditional finance users enter decentralized finance on Flare, by analyzing their risk tolerance and suggesting a DeFi strategy.
2DeFi allows users to upload screenshots of their Robinhood portfolios, which Google’s Gemini AI analyzes to assess risk tolerance. The AI-generated profile is used to suggest a DeFi strategy, such as staking or liquidity provision. Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good game of financial risk π€.
To simplify onboarding, 2DeFi integrates Google login-based wallets, allowing users to interact with Flare without managing private keys. Because, who needs that kind of stress π©?
Flare AI kit
The hackathon also marked the launch of the Flare AI Kit, an open-source SDK for building AI-powered blockchain applications. Because, of course, we need more open-source SDKs π€¦ββοΈ. The SDK allows developers to integrate AI models with Flare while ensuring verifiability and security.
Flare AI Kit will continue to evolve, with plans to bring it to the Google Cloud Marketplace as a production-ready solution. Because, you know, the world needs more AI-powered blockchain solutions π€―.
The initiative aims to make AI computations on blockchain more transparent and secure for developers and enterprises. Because, finally, someone is trying to make sense of this chaos π€.
