If you felt that watching the 5.5-hour chair reveal stream for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday was an exhilarating journey, remember, you weren’t the only one. In fact, Florence Pugh and David Harbour were there too, alongside us, tackling the tumultuous scene filled with endless director chairs, the gradual revelation of names for the upcoming Marvel film, and the uncertainty that came with it all. Much like us, they weren’t entirely certain whether they were even part of the movie.
In a recent interview shared via Fandango’s official Instagram account, the super cast of the upcoming Thunderbolts* was asked about their reactions to the now-infamous Marvel livestream event. The stream revealed the entire cast of Avengers: Doomsday by showing personalized director chairs one by one throughout five and a half hours. The host posed the million-dollar question: “What was your reaction to the Marvel livestream? Did you know by that time that your name was announced?” What followed was gold, as Florence Pugh shared:
Pugh: Frankly, the length of it just astounded me. It seemed endless. At one point, I even got up to brew some tea, thinking I could take a break, but it continued. Incredible… And what names they had!
Is tea on the agenda? It seems that Pugh might’ve finished a full meal and come back before her identity was disclosed. In fact, David Harbour, much like the rest of us, also shared his thoughts on the matter.
The scene continued and paused occasionally, leaving me pondering, “Ah, there’s Paul Rudd here. Could it be me too? Could it be me too?” Indeed, the anticipation grew as I eagerly awaited the sight of my own name on screen.
The host jokingly wondered which position Harbour held within the apparently endless queue of stars being announced, and added humorously:
As time drew near to the conclusion, I found myself growing increasingly anxious, much like someone biting their fingernails nervously. To put it bluntly, you were definitely ahead of me, and my reaction was a disheartened, “Oh dear, no.
To provide some clarification, Harbour’s name surfaced approximately two hours into the broadcast. It was interesting to realize that Black Widow and Red Guardian were just as puzzled as everyone else while tuning in. What initially appeared as a grand marketing strategy by Marvel—keeping us on edge for nearly six hours before the Doomsday cast unveiling—transformed into an exercise testing our patience, speculation, and utter confusion.
The extended broadcast, which remained popular for hours, sparked speculation, humor, and even real-time commentary among viewers as they anticipated the gradual revelation of names on chairs. Although this method generated some controversy, it was clearly successful: viewers remained captivated until the very end—it turns out, some of them were actually part of the movie production.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now only available to stream on Disney+, with the starting price of $9.99 per month for its newly introduced ad-supported plan. The film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, and given that it showcases just a fraction of the charisma these two individuals exude at press events, we’re in for an extraordinary experience. Until then, let’s make sure our beverages stay warm, and perhaps in the future, Marvel could inform Florence and David about any related news in advance.
