Following That ‘90s Show’s Cancellation At Netflix, The Streamer Just Axed A One-Season Series

As someone who has spent countless hours binge-watching Netflix originals, it is always disheartening to see a good show get canceled after just one season. The latest casualty, “Kaos”, was an intriguing blend of Greek and Roman mythology, boasting a star-studded cast led by the charismatic Jeff Goldblum.

Although many successful Netflix shows have continued past their second season, it’s well-known that the streaming platform doesn’t hesitate to end original productions, particularly those limited to one season. Sadly, viewers learned that Netflix decided not to renew That ‘90s Show for a third season. Regrettably, the streamer has now canceled another series after only one season, and this decision comes despite having notable talent associated with it.

The humorous show “Kaos,” featuring Jeff Goldblum and influenced by Greek and Roman mythology, has been terminated following its first season consisting of eight episodes. This information was shared by Variety without specifying the exact cause for the series’ end. However, it should be noted that despite spending four weeks on Netflix’s Top 10 list, the show failed to leave a lasting impact on viewers.

According to Variety, it’s reported that one of the cast members from the show “Kaos” announced the cancellation. Aurora Perrineau, who played Eurydice (also known as “Riddy”), shared this news on Instagram before deleting the post. She admitted that the news was painful for her and detailed her journey to getting the role and eventually working with her fellow cast members. Furthermore, Perrineau commended her co-stars and crew, expressing her gratitude for being involved in the project.

In a contemporary setting, the story revolves around the character Zeus, brilliantly portrayed by Jeff Goldblum, who is none other than the mighty and sometimes petty Greek god. The series unfolds as he strives to preserve his rule over mankind and his fellow deities. However, his task is complicated by Prometheus (Stepher Dillane), a character long confined, who embarks on a mission to dethrone the Greek thunder god. The ensemble cast includes talents such as Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, Rakie Ayola, Killian Scott, Debi Mazar, and David Thewlis. This captivating series was created by Charlie Covell, who has previously worked on “The End of the F***ing World.

It appears that the creator of “Sons of Anarchy,” Kurt Sutter, has reportedly parted ways from his latest Netflix project featuring Lena Headey. Unfortunately, this separation comes at a time that doesn’t seem auspicious.

It’s become common practice for streaming services like Netflix, as well as many others, to end shows after only one season. For example, earlier this year, Netflix axed the series “The Brothers Sun” after just one season, which was surprising and left me feeling unsettled. Similarly, Max decided to pull the plug on “The Girls on the Bus” after a single season of 10 episodes. While I understand that such decisions are part of doing business, learning that a show I’ve grown fond of is no longer being produced is difficult to accept.

Regarding “That ’90s Show”, there’s a possibility it might return for fans. The series lead and executive producer, Kurtwood Smith, disclosed that they plan to try pitching the sequel of “That ’70s Show” to different networks or platforms. It remains uncertain if these attempts will bear fruit, but history shows that similar strategies have worked well for certain shows in the past.

It’s unclear if a similar strategy will be applied to Kaos, leaving its dedicated fans feeling let down. Time will tell if this series will join the list of Netflix shows that were prematurely canceled, but for now, it’s disappointing to see another show with just one season cut short.

Right now, you can stream all of “Kaos” with a Netflix subscription, which also grants you access to both seasons of “That ’90s Show”. Additionally, keep an eye on our 2024 TV schedule for updates on upcoming and returning series.
