FOMO Alert: Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise Almost Joined What We Do In The Shadows!

Even though we’re only a fourth into the 2025 TV programming, it seems like an eternity has passed since FX’s “What We Do In The Shadows” concluded in 2024. This fantastic vampire series, which spanned six seasons, was filled with hilarious wit and memorable cameos. Recently, its stars Harvey Guillén (Guillermo de la Cruz) and Kayvan Novak (Nandor the Relentless) disclosed that two well-known celebrities almost joined the show, leaving me wondering about what might have been!

At this year’s Dublin Comic Con, Geek Ireland welcomed two alumni from “What We Do in the Shadows,” who discussed a range of topics, including their thoughts on the unexpectedly satisfying series finale. However, what truly piqued my interest was their insights into the show’s impressive array of top-tier cameos. Guillén recounted that they enjoyed collaborating with actors such as Haley Joel Osment and Mark Hamill immensely. What has me intrigued, though, are the two prominent figures Guillén mentioned in connection to vampire performances, and Kayvan Novak confirmed their involvement. A word of caution: they were the leading stars of one of the most iconic supernatural films from the ’90s.

For our group of vampires, we planned on recruiting renowned vampires. Initially, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were set to join us. These were individuals whom we found ourselves exclaiming, “Wow, we might actually get them!” followed by a cautious, “If everything goes as planned.

It’s hard to imagine a more fitting cast for this show than Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, don’t you think? If they had returned to their roles as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt from “Interview with the Vampire,” it would have been absolutely brilliant. With so many vampires already on FX’s supernatural comedy, it seems only natural that they might have been included too.

It might seem like a funny idea for high-profile celebrities to appear on ‘What We Do In The Shadows’, but that’s exactly what makes the show so intriguing – it delights in surprising and twisting conventional ideas, while still maintaining an authentic vibe. I can easily imagine Louis and Lestat interacting with Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson, and just thinking about it gives me a strong sense of missing out. Now, I find myself pondering how these two stars could have been incorporated into the show.

Indeed, it wasn’t just Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt who couldn’t make it onto the set of WWDITS throughout its duration. Harvey Guillén also pointed out that many guest actors faced issues with scheduling conflicts, making it difficult for them to participate as well.

During the first season, there were several actors who nearly joined our cast, but their schedules clashed with ours, preventing them from doing so after all.

It doesn’t surprise me that numerous celebrities sought to join the vampire comedy. Given more seasons, we might have seen even more participation, but against EP Taika Waititi’s preferences, the show ended. I can’t dispute the excellence of the final product, as it ranks among Waititi’s finest works, much like the film from which it originates, What We Do in the Shadows.

Despite my doubts about whether I’ll ever accept it, the fact that Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt almost made an appearance on our show still amazes me. It’s uncertain what might have transpired if they had actually shown up. In the end, it seems that imaginative stories like fan fiction are a way to fill in those blanks.

Go ahead and treat yourself by watching all six seasons of the show “What We Do in the Shadows” right now on Hulu. While the cast from “The Interview with a Vampire” might not appear, you’ll find plenty of intriguing guest stars to enjoy instead.
