For Nicole McLaughlin, the Pun Is Always Intended

What makes up Nicole McLaughlin‘s artistic method? She uses self-expression, sustainability, and traditional fun as some of her key components. “I feel that my artistry and I are quite alike,” she states. “The ideas swirling in my mind… I can extract them and transform them into something tangible. If someone wished to understand me better, they would only need to look at my work – that’s a reflection of my personality.

McLaughlin’s work is incredibly diverse. One moment she could be crafting a cactus using recycled materials from returned Arc’Teryx jackets, the next she might create a wallet chain by repurposing a door security chain right off the wall. Additionally, she has shared her innovative design ideas with various brands such as HOKA, Merrell, Crocs, and others when collaborating on projects.

Regardless of how high her profile climbs, McLaughlin remains just as joyful as ever. “I love making people smile,” she admits. “I like being amused too,” she adds. “It’s all about trying out new things, being humorous or peculiar… What you create doesn’t necessarily have to be a joke, but maintaining a light-hearted spirit is always essential.
