Since its formation in 1976, the lineup of this foreign band has gone through numerous changes. However, Mick Jones is the sole member who has consistently been part of it. Given that he got stranded in New York City during the mid-1970s when his previous group disbanded, it’s fair to say that Foreigner wouldn’t have come into existence without him. This bit of ‘schadenfreude’ turned out to be beneficial for their future fanbase.
Initially, Lou Gramm served as the lead vocalist for the band. He lent his voice to their most popular albums, but eventually chose to pursue a solo career entirely. Despite the fact that neither he nor Foreigner have achieved the same level of commercial success since then, it doesn’t diminish the quality of the music they produced earlier. The music industry has simply evolved past that era.
From 2005 onwards, Kelly Hansen has predominantly handled the vocals for Foreigner. It seems that Gramm had no major issues with Hansen, but he did feel that Jones tried to make Hansen’s vocal style overly similar to his own. However, fans might not find this a problem. The chemistry between Gramm and Foreigner was magical enough to earn them a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lou Gramm to rejoin Foreigner for run of Latin America shows
Currently, Hansen encounters circumstances that prevent him from leaving the U.S. to join the band for their performances. This means he won’t be able to participate during the upcoming Latin America tour dates, and unfortunately, he will also miss the Canadian tour with Foreigner in October and November. It seems there might be an intriguing backstory or perhaps passport-related difficulties at play.
Due to Hansen’s absence, luckily for Foreigner fans in Latin America, Gramm has been announced as his replacement during the upcoming tour from April 28 in Mexico City to May 10 in São Paulo, Brazil. (Source: Blabbermouth)
If you’re an enthusiastic follower of the band and happen to be planning a short getaway soon, it might be worth considering a trip to Latin America in May. You can enjoy beautiful beaches, breathtaking mountains, and an abundance of delicious food. Plus, Lou Gramm is making a return with Foreigner for a while.
It seems there’s a bit of ambiguity since, as per Hansen’s statement to Blabbermouth, band member Luis Maldonado has been recording certain songs in Spanish for the band. He will perform the vocals, while Gramm is slated as a guest vocalist. In essence, it means that during the concert, you’ll hear both Maldonado and Gramm singing.
